DTV

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

DTV

Post by Diabolical »

The tv I have in the computer room isn't hooked up to cable at all because I pretty much only use it for my PS2 and background noise while I'm online.
With all this Dtv conversion hoopla I got two of the $40 vouchers from the gov't and picked up a converter box the other day.
Hooking it up was easy, as was programming it (yay autoscan).

The first thing I noticed is that the picture is incredibly clear.
The second thing I noticed is that I'm missing channels I shouldn't be missing, like ABC, NBC, and FOX. I get CBS just fine (and a shitload of PBS stations). I looked up the Digital Channel numbers of the missing networks online and none of 'em work.
For example, for ABC 12 their website says to use 12.1, 12.2, or 12.3. I get no signal from all three.

Any ideas as to what the dealio is?

Go to http://www.antennaweb.org for channels list with the off air antenna in you area. You might need to repoint your antenna also.

That site looks like it is for a rooftop antenna. Right, or am I reading things wrong?

I'm just using a regular rabbit ear style antenna, which now has a digital converter box connected. I got a semi-decent signal without the dig conv box, now with it I get nothing at all.

It sounds like you already had a digital antennae and didnt need any new one. What you are doing is converting the signal back to analog with the box you bought and canceling out the multicast channels(12.1, 12.2, etc) since analog only will take 1 channel.

Definitely not a digital signal. The tv is at least 10 years old. Probably closer to 20.

The few channels I do get with the converter box are amazingly good. I get CBS (and one of its sub-channels) and 4 local PBS stations.
