Philly didn't know they were already eliminated and pulled their goalie with 3 minutes left and screwed the Wings in the process.

Buffalo fired most of their coaching staff today. The GM seems to have a short list of who he wants. The coaches had to go. The Sabres could put up 8 goals, then turn around and get shut out the next night. They were so inconsistent. To me, that's a coaching problem.

The last 2 wings games were the best 2 hockey games I've watched in years. All the magic they needed was available & they used it all. Too fucking bad they didn't generate one more win or OT loss during the course of the 84 games. Long, drawn out sigh.

In other news, my home town London Knights play Saginaw for the Memorial Cup championship this afternoon. This is the "Canadian Hockey League" Championship for Major Junior A hockey (16-20 year-olds). Basically the league that supplies the NHL with 75 percent of its talent.

Suck it, Rangers. I've seen some Sabres fans calling the Panthers "Buffalo South" because there are so many former Sabers players on their roster.

Just checked London's and Saginaw's rosters. Dale Hunter is London's coach? I saw plenty of Washington Capital games after we moved to Maryland and Virginia. Never saw that guy being a role model for kids.

I played at the Capitals' practice rink in high school. The only player I remember seeing was Rod Langway. We got to the rink one day, and he was alone taking slapshots from the blue line. I can still feel the thunder of those shots.

On my 28th birthday, Dale (& his brother Mark - a former NHLer as well of course) became the owners of the London Knights. Dale has been the head coach for nearly that whole time. Since they bought the team, a beautiful new rink as been built right in downtown London that sells out game after game. No other source has provided as many prospects to the NHL as the Knights in the past 25 years. They are consistently among the best teams in the CHL.

I knew that the Knights have been good and they produce a ton of NHL'ers. Just didn't realize either Hunter was involved.

So Johnny Gaudreau (aka "Johnny Hockey") - a perpetual all-star over the last 10 seasons - was in New Jersey for his sister's wedding when he was run into & killed by a drunk driver. Also killed was his brother. Sad day for hockey & for the Gaudreau family.
