Re: Recommended Reading
I read a preview of Thor 2 or 3 and wondered the same thing.
"Hey, Tony."
"Hey, Thor, how's it going?"
"Not bad. Verily, think I'll chill on earth again for a while."
"Yo, Thor, here's your paperwork. You need to fill it out, or I fight you and then Captain Mar-Vell keeps you in jail for the rest of your life."
"Thou shalt fight me? Hold on--did you say Captain Mar-Vell? What kind of retconning has been going on since I left?"

Re: Recommended Reading
Hey, anyone read DC: New Frontiers? I just saw a preview for the animated movie on the Superman Doomsday DVD, and this series looks like it rocked. I'm definitely planning to check it out.

Re: Recommended Reading
Again with the four color stuff.
World War Hulk Frontline 4 of 6. Better than previous issues. First half is a thinly veiled criticism of certain parts of our society. Mostly the Southern states. The second half is more comedy of a murder mystery.
Countdown 33. Each weekly issue of this book is broken down into the following storylines. 1. Jimmy Olsen. 2. Mary Marvel. 3. Pied Piper and Trickster. 4. Donna Troy and Jason Todd. Apparently each section is in a contest to outbore the others.
New X-Men 42. One of those "downtime" issues between major storylines where everyone is just kinda hanging around the X-Mansion. Not surprisingly, this one is jam packed with lots of character development. New X-Men is a very good book, and probably doesn't get much recognitoin because it's not one of the "Main" X-books. And it will probably get cancelled during the upcoming X-Men Dissassembled disassembling. Which is too bad. It's also too bad that Chris Claremont still gets work from Marvel. What a washed-up, has-been hack.
Captain America 30. Another amazing effort by Brubaker. Which makes thirty straight amazing efforts in a row, by him on this series. Whether it's a kickass throwdown between a certain cybernetic former sidekick and Sin and Crossbones, Tony Stark's Columbo like discovery of the truth, or yet another wonderfully shocking final page, this book slides along at exactly the right pace.

Re: Recommended Reading
X-Men:Emperor Vulcan 1 of 5. The bookend Limited Series that follows Deadly Genesis and the Rise and Fall of the Shi'Ar. Havok and the Starjammers do the rebel alliance thing against Havok's brother, Vulcan, and the other Shi'ar baddies like Deathbird than the Imperial Guard. Until the big twist ending.
Justice Society of America 9. Geoff Johns continues to craft a well paced series. And I guarantee the staple page spread will be made into a poster.
World War Hulk 4 of 5. Holy shit, this book is fucking amazing!! Ball to the wall fun and excitement in the grang Marvel tradition! Hulk brutally beating Dr. Strange to death! ( okay, not really, but when you're reading it, it's so brutal you can't help but think, HOLY SHIT, he's beating Dr. Strange to death!) Hulk giving the "bad guys" a taste of what he went through on the Red Planet! And the awesome OS! final page. Issue 5 is gonna be intense!
Not so recommended reading.
Heroes for Hire 13. A totally meh series. But anyone who can take Humbug, the dorkiest concieved villain ever, and turn him into a cool looking and the most complex character on the team, deserves a mention.
World War Hulk: Gamma Corps 3 of 4. I didn't even bother reading the first two issues, but the last page is a doozie of a whopper.
New Avengers/Transformers 3 of 4. It's not a compliment to say it took me two minutes to read this. And why would Tony Stark bother building a Transformers sized Iron Man armor? Just in case....?!? Tyler Kirkham's art is pretty good though.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Well, I got down to London to see my folks and managed to clear almost all of the ugly blemishes off my recent "needs" list:
Thor 3
Thunderbolts 115, 116 (fucking FINALLY - I'm pumped to read the first Ellis arc all in one sitting)
X-Men (Gabe Summers' ltd series, whatever it's called again) 1 of 5
Hulk 110
Cap 30
Thor 3
Thunderbolts 115, 116 (fucking FINALLY - I'm pumped to read the first Ellis arc all in one sitting)
X-Men (Gabe Summers' ltd series, whatever it's called again) 1 of 5
Hulk 110
Cap 30

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man #24 - Mediocre second installment. Someone tell Joe Q that poses don't have to be dynamic for absolutely no reason. I'm loving the look of the alternate white covers. The MJ history lesson wasn't needed. It was cool for Spidey, but that was enough. I really don't care about the look at the unfinished and finsihed pages. All the bonus stuff should have been put in some sort of special issue and knocked a buck off the cover price.
Punisher War Journal #12 - Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever read. Hopefully this "Punisher" is a Skrull.
Things The Punisher says in this issue, but should never say:
"No thanks necessary, Ma'am."
"I'm here to help"
"I have the best job in the world" (as he tries on the gay symbiote suit)
"Rock N' Roll"
Punisher Max #51 - Ahhhh...much better. Nice seeing Barracuda the way way I'm used to seeing him drawn (by Gordon Parlov) - he didn't look right in issue #50. Also nice seeing Frank go apeshit in his own berserker way on Barracuda. I have a very bad feeling this arc won't end well at all (especially if this is Ennis' last).
And I want a ML Barracuda figure.
Star Wars Dark Times #5 - "Meh" ending to a "meh" story. Not too sure I want to continue with the next arc. Not reading would probably would be a good way to reduce my pull list.

Code: Select all
Perhaps a Marvel Select figure from Diamond Distributors might be more appropriate?code wrote:Bidi Bidi Bidi....okay Buck!

Fantastic Four was pretty good. Wicked last page.
