Colbert had a field day with this last night, with his guest (some guy named Steve... Martin? I dunno, some old actor or something) constantly walking in front of the camera.

Is that the same Steve Martin that is in a sequel to a remake that no one really liked?

The one who should know better?
Yup.
Every time I see an ad for that, I feel like popping in Three Amigos or buying The Jerk or Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid so that I can remind myself that, like so many other SNL alums, he used to be incredibly funny.

"You and me? We're fuckin' done, professionally" has become a new catchphrase between my friends and I.

I only wish he'd worked in the phrase, "I'm the goddamn Batman!"

Blasphemy!
I posted this at FB and made Diabolical think I was high.
I have decided, based upon both movies being on at the same time and me flipping back and forth between them, that Jack Nicholson is a far superior Joker than Heath Ledger.
I am not saying his performance was better, nor that he played a better villain. However, looking at the characters, the Joker is not a guy with messy makeup who blows shit up and keeps talking about his scars. The Joker is a ridiculously insane weirdo who wears purple suits and murders mob bosses with quills and poisons people's toiletries and tries to gas an entire city full of people because he thinks their grinning bodies will look cool.
The Joker is, no doubt about it, one of the deadliest motherfuckers ever created, and has to have a body count that dwarfs any real-world serial killer (and probably quite a few real-world terrorist masterminds and dictators). But what is the Joker going to find more amusing (and, thus, do): blowing up a cell phone in a lackey's chest to escape prison, or whining about Batman's plane and calmly shooting his right-hand man for no reason?
Truth be told, Cesar Romero was a better Joker (though damn sure not a better actor) than Heath Ledger.
It's probably a silly question; it's a matter of which one plays second fiddle to Mark Hamill. He's such an amazing Joker, you could probably just address an envelope to the Joker and it would wind up in Hamill's mailbox.

Re: Blasphemy!
pretty much everything about nolan's batman has been watered down for the sake of 'realism'. except for batman's vocalization - for some reason that was turned up to 11.
i feel the same way you do, but still feel that ledger's performance was incredible - it's not his fault the character wasn't written as the joker from the comics, or BtaS.

Re: Blasphemy!
Huh. I left out the part where I made a point to mention that Ledger's character was better and he did a better acting job. Just that it ain't the Joker.
G4 has been airing Batman and Batman Forever as two of their "Movies That Don't Suck." They may want to re-think that tag for Batman Forever. I watched a bit, first time in ages. It's no doubt a visually impressive film--not so much in special effects, but in cinematography, lighting, and set design. But, damn, that movie sucks ass otherwise. Tommy Lee Jones doesn't seem to actually be able to speak well with the Two-Face makeup on, "Riddler" is Jim Carey playing himself as a second-rate Joker (so he's playing himself as the Riddler), and Two-Face seems to be clinically retarded and I didn't catch him flipping his coin at all in the several minutes I was able to stomach.

Re: Blasphemy!
Batman Forever gets worse and worse each time I watch it until it has dropped to almost Batman&Robin levels of awful. The only thing I still find hilarious is Carrey's uber-ultra-over the top raging queen of a homosexual performance. Oh and Nicole Kidman waking up in that silk nightgown. Damn.
Sometimes, just to get my ire back up, I like to sit down and watch B&R again. I do the same thing with Spider-Man 3.
I can't say which is the better Joker. It's like asking who is a better Batman artist, Norm Breyfogle or Neal Adams?

The Six Minute IMAX footage featuring Bane. Watch it before YouTube takes it down.

God damn, that already looks better than the last one! It's not an actor playing a role that takes its name from a classic Batman character, it's the actor playing the fucking character.
