Re: Latest on the Star Wars television show
Hey, jjreason!
Remember at Comic-Con '05 (wasn't it), when Sansweet said the show wouldn't be airing until 2007 "at the earliest," and we both agreed that they're idiots for not acting sooner?
If you've not already read it, you'll love the latest. They haven't hired writers yet. They hope to have scripts in time to start filming hopefully in 2009.
Meaning if they meet that deadline, then it would presumably come out in 2010. So they will have been hyping the hell out of this show for five years with absolutely nothing to show us for it for at least four of those years.
Is the show real? Is it just some rumor to dick around with us so we buy all the fucking figures?
ROTS was not a horrible movie. But ROTS was extremely rushed and light on character development (which it sorely needed), and as a result did not save the mess that was the prequel trilogy. That disillusioned a lot of people. The books and comics have both turned into jokes. Once, there was room for debate as to whether they were worthwhile, as a lot of the stories didn't suck. Now, well, the books are just pissing on all the older stories for the sake of jacking off fanboys, and the comics, well, they just announced a huge crossover along the lines of Civil War (their words, not mine) which would use a common character to tie together KOTOR, Legacy, Rebellion, and Dark Times (never minding that this is a span of about 4,000 years).
So, yeah, the prequels let us down, and there's nothing to keep us interested. Do they expect everyone to still be apeshit about this show five years after it was announced? I mean, those of us other than JJBeast.
If they knew they wanted to do a show, they should've had scripts in the bag before ROTS hit theaters. It's not that incredibly difficult.

It IS difficult. Look who you're talking about. It's fantasy by way of corporate boardroom meetings and story via sales projections.

They are hoping it will give everyone time to forget how much the prequels sucked.anarky wrote:Hey, jjreason!

As far as the SW films go, that is true if you are comparing it to AOTC. I still don't think much of ROTS. Its all a matter of opinion. What's weird is that I can sit through TPM, but not AOTC or ROTS. I can't explain why. Maybe I've accepted TPM for what it is and don't like the other 2 for what they were trying to be.ROTS was not a horrible movie.
If the tv show ever comes to be, I doubt I'll watch it. But, there are enough optimistic fanboys, prequels lovers, and sci-fi fans to generate interest. Then with the apparent success of the new Battlestar Galactica and those other sci-fi shows I don't watch, why wouldn't they go through with it?

At least the cartoon is coming out next year. But they need to stop announcing shit before they've even started - much like the 3D versions, which apparently aren't even coming.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Re: Latest on the Star Wars television show
Good call, JJL. I watched most of the Clone Wars episodes when Cartoon Network had the mini-marathon. They ok, but the short format got annoying. If the new cartoon is on, I'd give it a try.
I forgot all about the 3D movie versions. Wasn't the original plan to have 1 film per year starting with TPM starting in '07 or '08?

Re: Latest on the Star Wars television show
So, Anakin has a Padawan in the two-month period between his being made a Knight and the beginning of ROTS.
Never mind that several novels, a stack of comics, and half the original Clone Wars cartoon take place during that period. And none of them referenced a Padawan! Not even the death of a Padawan, which should still be weighing heavily on him had she existed.
Oh, and there's a tiny little Hutt named Rotta. Who, based on his size, would still be at the age where Hutts are completely helpless. And he's rumored to be Jabba's son.
This looks almost as good as Legacy. Almost. But not quite.

Re: Latest on the Star Wars television show
This weekend, I saw a commercial on Spike. It was a starry background with Vader breathing. Then a lightsabre flashed and it had a date (April or May). Does this mean Spike is getting the Clone Wars cartoon?

I doubt it. It ain't supposed to be out until fall. No idea what that was though.

Re: Latest on the Star Wars television show
I think what you saw was an ad for their huge marathon of all six movies, because if memory serves me, I seem to recall them getting the rights to broadcasting the saga about a year ago. If you ask me, I don't know why they even bothered. And if they do the same thing with the Star Wars franchise that they did with the 007 franchise, expect them to be playing on Spike 24/7.Rogue II wrote:This weekend, I saw a commercial on Spike. Re: Latest on the Star Wars television show
It's official. This show gets a theatrical release prior to bowing on TV.
Call me cynical, but I hope it bombs, and that discourages Lucas from pissing on Star Wars any more.
I find it frigging hilarious that, after all his "this can't be on until after 10 because it's not for kids" crap, and his talk about it being on a major network, that it's on fucking Cartoon Network again. I guarantee you he exhausted all his options and had to go crawling back to them. It ain't even on Adult Swim.
That oughta get you a lot of exposure, Uncle George. Maybe it'll be like the last one, and people will realize you made it in 2010.

They're likely going for the kiddie demographic by showing it on Cartoon Network and then the adults on TNT.
Cynical.

Re: Latest on the Star Wars television show
Yeah, but Lucas has said repeatedly these are "PG-13" and "not for kids." He said nothing's been done like it before (meaning he probably doesn't watch nearly as much animation as he pretends to).
Most of the hype up until now has had a sort of "animation for people who don't necessarily like animation" vibe to it. Cartoon Network isn't going to win any converts to the medium, and TBS will only get the people who are wondering where the hell the latest CHiPs reunion show is.

TBS is a comedy station, TNT is for drama, according to their taglines. They're not the same station.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Thanks. They will probably screw it up. Have you ever watched the Three Stooges on Spike? They force a commercial in the middle of the short and tons of commercials before and after each episode. It's quite painful to watch.
