I watched The Abyss today. It is only non-Star Wars movie I saw in the theater more than once. I don't think I've seen it since then, which was when I was in High School. Anyway, it seems to have held up.

The Abyss is the shit. That is one movie I haven't seen enough, only 2 or 3 times, max. Great film.

you need to watch the extended cut of the abyss, however. it makes it a much deeper movie. pun not intended.

Watched Mr. Brooks tonight. I picked it up a week or two ago at Best Buy for $6-7.
Not bad. Costner was better than usual, as was Demi Moore. Dane Cook was actually decent also.

Also been making my way through Blade: The Series on DVD. Haven't watched any of it since it originally aired on Spike. People gave it a lot of shit, but I liked it. It is also much better on DVD, with more cussin' and some bits of nudity. I wasn't crazy about Sticky Fingaz as Blade initially, but overall I think he does a good job. He doesn't try to imitate Wesley Snipes, but he made the character his own. The chicks weren't too shabby either (the female lead is the hot chick in the Mercury car commercials).
Too bad poor ratings killed the show. It had a lot of potential.

I liked Mr. Brooks. It was much better than I was anticipating. I actually picked it up on Blu-ray for dirt cheap, but don't have a method for playing it yet. :?

Poor ratings have killed many a good show in the past. :( I could rattle off a list, but you all already know them.

Last night I put on Tremors. Just recently picked up the HD DVD version. First off, I love the movie as is. Very good fun. Secondly, the picture quality was outstanding. I had read mixed reviews on the transfer, but I thought it was great. Much better than that SE non-anamorphic release I had beforehand. Great movie, classic.

Watched a bunch of movie recently.

After finishing Blade: The Series I re-watched all 3 Blade movies.
Blade has held up well, being 10 years old(!) already. Stephen Dorff is still one of the best Marvel movie villains. The only thing that seemed odd to me was I remember the movie feeling almost like it was filmed in the 70's - it had a certain...something to it. I don't see that there anymore.
Blade 2 is probably my favorite of the three. The Reapers were really cool and creepy as all hell. There are a few questionable CG shots that look like rubbery puppets fighting.
Blade: Trinity isn't as mediocre as I remember it being (but still the worst of the three). Ryan Reynolds is great and has many great one-liners and Jessica Biel is nice to look at. Its a crime that haven't had Ryan Reynolds hasn't been cast as either The Flash or Deadpool- he'd be perfect for either one (and if you believe the rumors, he is one of them next summer). The biggest crime is the lack of Kris Kristofferson.

My Blueberry Nights - Norah Jones, Natalie Portman, and Jude Law together in a movie? Sign me up. A pretty good movie, but the style is definitely not for everyone. Norah does a pretty good job in her fist acting role. In a smaller role, Portman gives one of her better performances. Her blond look is fucking boner-tastic (and I'm not a huge fan of blonds).

Persepolis - Good animated movie based on the graphic novel, but not as mind-blowing amazing as I'd been lead to believe. It is nice to see an animated film that isn't strictly for kids though.

Sunshine - Decent sci-fi flick from the director of 28 Days Later. Great premise - the sun is dying and a crew is sent to drop a bomb the size of Manhattan into it to reignite it. Naturally, things go wrong. The last half hour or so gets a bit too trippy for my tastes. It felt like the director was trying to make a new classic sci-fi movie.

In theaters:

WALL*E - My favorite Pixar flick yet.

Hancock - Nowhere near as bad as the reviews lead me to think. The movie is pretty fun doesn't take itself too seriously (until the climax of course). Based on what I saw in the commercials/trailers I halfway predicted the "twist" that happens 2/3 of the way through. At 90 minutes its pretty short. This movie could have been much better with another well-placed 30 minutes. Also there was a lot of cussin' for a PG-13 movie.

I've watched several movies the past few days.

Vantage Point - Pretty suspenseful.

The Eye (remake) - Mediocre at best. Not as good as the original.

Drillbit Taylor - This was actually better than I was anticipating. Several funny moments. Not bad.

Be Kind Rewind - Great movie. Really enjoyed this one.

I haven't seen the Blade movies in a while, but I think the 2nd one was my least favorite. 1, 3, 2 I believe was the order of favorite to least. But like I said, not positive, it's been a while. I watched a few episodes of the Blade series when they originally aired. Stopped watching and never finished it. Not sure if I will either. What did you think of the series Diabolical? (EDIT: Nevermind, re-read your post a few back. )

Also re-watched Shortbus recently.
Good, funny movie about sex and love with real sex in it: straight sex, gay sex, solo sex, group sex; It's all there and used as a part of the story rather than as a means for the viewer to spank it to.
It was made by the guy that made Hedwig and the Angry Inch (which I haven't seen, but hear its good).

Also, you'll never hear the American National Anthem the same way ever again.

Over the past few days, I caught up with a bunch of movies. The first three I watched in theaters and I watched the last one online. And surprisingly, I liked all of them.

Wall-E - Already had my say about this one. Great movie. I wouldn't call it the best Pixar flick, but it's definitely up there.

Hancock - I think this is one of Will Smith's better movies. The first half hour was hilarious, but it turned into a pretty decent action flick by the third act. The reviews were too harsh with this one. It's not a bad movie.

Wanted - This was a badass movie. It was like "The Matrix", but with a personality. Lots of violence and high octane action scenes. All that and Angelina Jolie's naked ass.

Get Smart - This was a decent comedy. Steve Carell was funny in it, but Alan Arkin stole the movie at the end, just like he did with "Little Miss Sunshine".

And I just realized that up until this point, I've seen every big summer movie this year except for "Sex and the City" and "The Love Guru". You couldn't pay me to watch those pieces of shit.

The Love Guru isn't a big summer movie.
Its bombing with less than $30 Million after 2 1/2 weeks.

(And somehow Zohan has almost $95 Million!)

Over the weekend, I watched Tombstone and both Hot Shots movies. No, I wasn't having an early 90s film festival, they just happened to be on. I also watched Airplane 2.

I ended up getting sucked into watching The Whole Nine Yards last night. I think this is a pretty good movie. I don't know why I ever sold my DVD?!?! Maybe because The Whole Ten Yards sucked something fierce?

Independence Day

Of course, I've seen it before, several times, but not in years and years. I'd forgotten how good it was. It's not Oscar material, but a very, very solid movie.

When it was over, I turned to Mrs A and said, "THAT is the movie Michael Bay wants to make, but never will be able to because he's just not that good."

I saw that Independence Day was on all weekend, but I didn't turn it on. I wasn't expecting much when I saw it the first time, but it was a good movie. Bill Pullman's speech before the counter-attack damn near makes me feel patriotic every time.
