They REALLY need to strongly consider leaving these 2 movies alone as a pair - I can honestly think of NO POSSIBLE WAY that they could do another Batman that would follow this one suitably.

Re: Batman Begins: The best superhero film of all time
Well my fat ass finally got to the theatre today to see this fucking thing..... and holy jumping shit, was it good. I was spoiler free again and glad - I didn't think Harvey would have NEARLY that much screen time and I sure didn't think they'd bump him off before they used him for the trilogy finale. Having only just watched it the once, I honestly can't think of anything I'd change or didn't like - it was as uncomfortable and stressful as it was supposed to be. Joker in the nurse's uniform was about as unsettling a picture as i can think of, other than possibly that implanted cell phone ringing inside of buddy's abdomen.

Re: Batman Begins: The best superhero film of all time
As I posted elsewhere:
August 16, 2008 - The day Star Wars dropped to #3 all-time.
As of Friday, August 15, Star Wars sits at $460,998,007 and The Dark Knight has $459,703,000.
A mere $1,295,007 separates the two. Batman hauled in another $5 million on Friday which means today should pull in a relatively similar amount, easily surpassing Star Wars as #2 all-time.
And The Dark Knight is still going pretty strong...but question remains: How close will it come to Titanic's $600.78 Million? Does Batman have another $140 Million left in it?

Re: Batman Begins: The best superhero film of all time
I don't know... I'd EASILY consider going back but I've only seen it once (and don't have a ton of guys living nearby that I'd go to the movies with). It's got the right mix of awesomeness plus something else outside the movie itself drawing fans to the theatres.....I'm ready to bet it goes to #1.
Theres NO FUCKING WAY though that more people have seen TDK in the last 5 weeks than saw Star Wars in it's first year in theatres. Nope. No way, no how.... I bet it's not even 10 percent. The inflation numbers need to be corrected somehow, or they need to do the math based on the age of the movie and do another ranking based on # of tickets sold.

Re: Batman Begins: The best superhero film of all time
if it had been counted in asses in the seats/tickets sold as opposed to box office receipts it would've been much more telling. though, the BOR's are all about comparison to production budget. but that shouldn't have any bearing on "#1 of all time", just on whether the produced made their money back or not, and i couldn't give two shits about that.jjreason wrote:Theres NO FUCKING WAY though that more people have seen TDK in the last 5 weeks than saw Star Wars in it's first year in theatres. Yeah, as ticket prices rise, you'll see more and more movies get into the top 10 (most of the ones there now were out within the last few years anyway). Though Dark Knight is doing gangbusters business.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

In the all-time adjusted list, Star Wars still ranks #2 behind Gone With The Wind.
Titanic is #6 and The Dark Knight doesn't show up until #43.

Re: Batman Begins: The best superhero film of all time
I brought this up at another website when a similar argument was made about SW and GWTW.
Well, if you took prints of Titanic and Dark Knight back in time and put them into theatres in 1939 or in 1977, both of those movies would PANTS GWTW and Star Wars. So it's all a matter of perspective.
Ticker prices were cheaper. There was no such thing as television ( back in 1939) and the choices on TV were minimal ( back in 1977) and there was no home entertainment (HDTV, Tivo, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, etc) to speak of.
There were also less movies being made, and more independent theatres with only one or two movie screens, not the 40mega-ultra-plex that's part of the AMC/Pacific chain. Movies like Star Wars had MONTHS to linger and a chance to earn money. Now movies have a life span in theatres of about three weeks and their "success" or "failure" is determined in HOURS.
So you can say GWTW and SW are the reigning champs, but the rules are completely different these days. $500+ million domestic is an incredible accomplishment.

Re: Batman Begins: The best superhero film of all time
maybe... MAYBE it would hold its own against SW, but there is absolutely NO way that it would have lasted a day in 1939. the sensibilities of the era were just too different for that sort of movie to become popular. seriously, next to GWTW, TDK would look like 'faces of death' or some snuff film does to audiences today.RoIIo Tomassi wrote:I brought this up at another website when a similar argument was made about SW and GWTW.

Re: Batman Begins: The best superhero film of all time
Well, I was using more the Titanic vs GWTW argument, but my point was essentially, the "adjusted $" argument works both ways. They might be off put by the harshness, but the cinematic design of films nowadays is 80 years advanced from what it was back then. People would go see the current movies in the same fashion as the "classic" movies and probably moreso. Thus making them the "winners". You can't tout GWTW and Star Wars as the "All Time Box Office Champs" because you can never put Titanic and Dark Knight in a 1939 theatre to see what would happen.

It's all good. There's only one God, right? Why can't there be only one superhero?

Re: Batman Begins: The best superhero film of all time
Wal-Mart is going to have a bad-ass exclusive for the DVD: Harvey's coin (and a comic)!
But there's a catch...its only on the standard edition.
Since she doesn't care about special features I'm thinking my Mom will want the standard version and I'll ask her to get this one and give me the coin and comic.
Or I'll buy it for her for Christmas and keep the coin and comic.
