What have you watched lately?

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

The only scene that really stands out as being really funny was the whale scene. But even that dragged on too long.

Road House contains one of the best lines in movie history:
"You're gonna be my regular Saturday night thing, baby."
"As they say in China, 'Arrivederci'!"

"Be Nice. Until it's time to not be nice." Words to live by. And what movie isn't made infinitely cooler by Sam Elliot?

Actually, according to Nick Swardson (Terry) on Talkshow with Spike Feresten, none of the dialogue was scripted. As in the show, they set up the location and the general outlines of what's to happen, and then just had at it.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Really? The movie felt scripted, especially stuff like the masturbation montage. Maybe it's because the "parody of Cops" was underplayed in the movie.

Well, that part falls under the header of them knowing the general outlines of the scene. And they knew there would be a nude beach, a beached whale, etc. but whatever they said (or, to some extent, did) within the scene was improvised.

I just finished 28 Weeks Later and it has to be one of the most disappointing sequels ever. I'm so glad I didn't see it in the theater or buy/rent the DVD.

I've been watching Star Trek Voyager episodes. I kinda get sad knowing that currently there are no star trek shows on tv. The last one sucked balls though, so maybe it's a good thing.

Just watched Tinker Tenor Dr. Spy when the Doctor starts day dreaming and it fuses with his reality subroutines. It's great when he's sitting in the ready room and dreaming that me (7 of 9), B'elanna and the Captain are all hitting on him. Good times.

The Borg wouldn't know fun if they assimilated an Amusement Park.

Surf's Up

I first saw previews for this at the 2005 or 2006 Comic-Con, and thought it looked really fucking cool. An animated documentary about surfing penguins? Awesome!

When the movie actually came out a year or so later, though, the advertising and promotional material made it appear they had ditched the pseudo-documentary (Mockumentary? No, because Christopher Guest isn't involved.), and no one mentioned it in reviews. I was a bit disappointed, since it sounded like they'd sanitized what could've been one of the cleverest angles in recent film history (anything having to do with Speed Racer notwithstanding, of course).

I finally caught it this morning, and am glad to say that the documentary aspect was intact. Further, this was an absolutely hysterical film. Shia LeBouf (in his only non-suckass role) as a cocky surfer-wannabe penguin, and Jonathan Heder as a stoner chicken. The baby penguins kinda stole the show, though. Especially the one who kept drowning in a couple of inches of water (I think his name was Arnold). The humor was genuine, and mostly successful--even a couple of fart jokes were actually appropriate, for a change.

I'd recommend watching this one, and I'm a little disappointed I didn't see it sooner. This ranks up there with my favorite non-Pixar CG movies. (Of course, that's a pretty short list, since the other companies don't usually do anything that comes close to Pixar quality. In fact, it's probably only TMNT, Shrek, and Shrek 3 otherwise. Shrek 2 was good, but kinda weak compared to the other Shreks. And Dinosaur, I guess, though I don't really count it, since it's live-action backgrounds... kinda the reverse of Speed Racer or Sin City.)

I watched "The Bucket List" the other day. It has Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson in it. Morgan Freeman alone is enough to sell it. It was really a good movie and sad towards the end. Both play there roles splendidly in it.

I watched The Big Lebowski earlier today. Fucking love this movie. Almost as much as 2-1B.

I've also watched No Country For Old Men a few times the past week or so. Fucking love this movie too.

Damn, The Coen Bros. are Gods!!!!
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

caught juno on saturday, excellent movie. rich characters abound and i was delightfully surprised that it wasn't a "deadbeat parents lead to teenage pregnancy" type of situation - the parents obviously cared about her and were quite attentive. teenage pregnancy can happen to anyone.
Life is short. STUNT IT!
