The random observation thread
(I thought we had one of these already.... Guess not. That might explain why every single random observation I've ever had is in a separate thread.)
It doesn't matter how much you hate a book. It doesn't matter how happily married (or engaged, or whatever) you are, or how unlikely you are to ever cheat on your woman.
If you read the shittiest book you've ever had the misfortune to read, and return it to the library, and the librarian is cute, and she sees the book and talks about how much she loves it, you will pretend it is the best book you've ever encountered and it changed your life.

Hmmmm...first of all, I'm thinking cute librarians are like Unicorns. pics or it didn't happen.
But we'll assume for the sake of your argument they exist. If I read a shitty book...hm..for instance we'll use Eragon as an example. If I was returning Eragon to the library and the cute librarian said "OMG that is the BEST book I've ever read. It changed my life!"
I would look at her and...I might slap her to get her attention..okay no. No slapping. But I would look her directly in the eye and say "What the fuck is wrong with you? You work in a library. You have access to centuries of literary greatness. Hello? Mark Twain? Shakespeare? Chaucer? Vonnegut? Salinger? If THIS [points to Eragon] is at the top of your list, I might have to fuck the stupid out of you. This book [thumping Eragon on desk] is utter shite. Shame on you for liking it. Now gimme a slow twirl and let daddy look at that ass."
Okay, I wouldn't go that overboard. But I would say I disagree and then nicely send her in the direction of a good book.

I would just blink twice stupidly, put the book down without saying a word & rub one out as soon as I got home.

All I know is that I never would've agreed with anyone that Scott Pilgrim was funny if said someone wasn't easy on the eyes.

Re: The random observation thread
'Nother random observation:
If a lady named Casey Rodriguez was acquitted for the murder of her daughter, Caylee Rodriguez, there would be no outrage. None whatsoever. Because, no matter how sensational, the story would have never have been reported. Probably not even in the local media, unless she was in a really small city.
I get fucking sick of the whole "missing blonde girl" syndrome in the media, when there are how many thousands of non-blondes (and boys) who go missing every year and no one ever gives a shit. Way to show how equal we are in the eyes of the media; unless you're a little girl and you're white, you can just go fuck yourself.

Caylee Anthony wasn't blonde. Duh.[/smartass]anarky wrote:I get fucking sick of the whole "missing blonde girl" syndrome in the media, when there are how many thousands of non-blondes (and boys) who go missing every year and no one ever gives a shit.
I'm as outraged as everyone else that the bitch gets to walk, but I'm not surprised. She did it, clear as day. But in the end the prosecution didn't do their job, so there was no other choice but acquittal.
It sucks, but that's the way it works.

Re: The random observation thread
I didn't follow the trial. Does the media have a requirement that there must be a semi-attractive white woman involved in the trial (either as victim or as the accused) in order for it to get national coverage?

Forgive me for trying to avoid as much coverage of it as possible.Diabolical wrote:Caylee Anthony wasn't blonde. Duh.[/smartass]
If Nancy Grace somehow got her own network, it would be bimbos getting outraged about missing white girls constantly.
BTW, I can't find it now, but there was an interesting news article a while back that sort of provided teeth to what I've been saying all along. It detailed two missing kids cases of two girls who went missing at roughly the same time in the same state. Circumstances were, all things considered, similar. One was black, one was white. Guess which one got national coverage until they found a body, and which one barely got a mention in the local paper?
I'm not saying people are racist, but the news media has definitely concluded (how, I don't know) that white kids, and especially white girls, are better for their ratings, which is fucking sick.

And while we are talking about the media, I take it all of that whole Lybia thing was resolved.

Re: The random observation thread
If this is just going to turn into an all-purpose "bitch about the media" discussion, I'll just point out they never follow any story through to the conclusion. Ever. They may get really close to the end, but they always drop it when it gets boring or something more sensational comes along.
I could not begin to count the number of stories I've read and thought, "I wonder how this will turn out. I'll probably never find out since this will be the last time it's ever reported."

Nancy Grace is a bitch. How much you want to bet her hypocritical ass is gonna write a book about this entire farce, thereby "profiting" from Caylee's death.

But they did report every tiny earthquake for a week or so. Remember how they'd report a 2.3, and everyone here would go apeshit, wondering why Japan couldn't "catch a break," not realizing that they have more earthquakes than California?Diabolical wrote:And Japan must be back to normal these days.Ran wrote:And while we are talking about the media, I take it all of that whole Lybia thing was resolved.
That big one was way more than they could handle, but a smaller one? I doubt they so much as blink anymore for even a 6.0.
