The Alot is Better Than You at Everything

For those, like me, who get annoyed at internet shorthand/poor grammar:

The Alot is Better Than You at Everything
As a grammatically conscientious person who frequents internet forums and YouTube, I have found it necessary to develop a few coping mechanisms. When someone types out "u" instead of "you," instead of getting mad, I imagine them having only one finger on each hand and then their actions seem reasonable. If I only had one finger on each hand, I'd leave out unnecessary letters too!

I can overlook a lack of capitalization when a person demonstrates a passable mastery of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

I'm fairly relaxed about internet grammar in that I don't jump on people when they misspell words in their posts. But it doesn't mean I don't find it fucking annoying.

Recently, I've been seeing a rash of internet posters typing 'would of' instead of would've, the contraction of would have.

The other one I saw the other day was somebody using 'when' as the past tense form of the verb "to go". I had to reread their post a couple times to figure out what they were trying to say. When I did, I facepalmed.

Eloquent writing is becoming a thing of the past. Or should I say a thing of the passed?

I've seen "where" for "were" a lot lately. It bugs me (alot!), but I figure almost anything online is written off-the-cuff, without being double-checked. And people are also exposed to other people's mistakes online and tend to make them unconsciously themselves.

Funny thing is, we're entering a new era, like the one that slowly started dying with the printing press, where it's almost going to be a grammatical Wild West, where everyone writes everything differently and the the most important thing is whether it's understandable or not, not whether it's correct. This makes me sad. To quote George Carlin, "Fuck common usage! It's wrong!"
