Okay, let's drop the joking about Rob Liefeld for a minute. This article really concerns me.

Yeah, this is comics-related, but I figure it will get more notice here. So sue me.

In all seriousness, I'm not sure what's worse--still jumping aboard a bandwagon that hit the trail months ago, the insanely lacking (in so many ways) artwork, or Liefeld's thinking that, just because it's okay to feature the real-life president in a story, it's okay to draw him holding a gun on the cover of a book that doesn't have anything to do with him just to sell comics.

It's wrong. Just plain and simply wrong.

Beyond what little I've said, I'm just at a loss for words. I'm honestly thinking about sending a link to the White House, with a short note that says something like, "Uh, were you guys aware of this?" But I'd rather not give it any further attention.

That's exactly what I was thinking. He has nothing to worry about. Not a single person will be able to tell it's him even if you put his name on his shirt.

For Liefeld, that's actually an amazing likeness.

BTW, what detail of the "drawing" jumped out to everyone as the worst point aside from the likeness? The fact that Chapel is about ten feet tall? Obama's razor-sharp elbows? The absolute inability of those tiny straps to hold the massive guns on Chapel's back? Obama's camel toe? Or the insane lack of perspective, especially on the guns (in particular, the one Chapel's holding in his left hand)?

I didn't even look at the right arm until you pointed it out. That is a mess. The stump, the weird claw, and that dildo thing you mentioned that would make the gun essentially useless.

Man. The dude is just sad.

actually now that i think about it, it was the obama camel-toe that jumped out at me first. followed by the ninja-star armpit.

Then there's "Obama's" missing left hand.

There's also the fact that Obama's left arm just kind of stops above the wrist.

And his left arm is missing a hand.

And you can't see his left hand when you should be able to.


EDIT: Reading through that link does anyone like Liefeld or are they just too embarrassed to try and defend him? I'm not into comics at all so all I know about him I read here.

Almost everyone hated Liefeld.
He does have a few supporters, but they're tough to find.

And mostly insane.

I'd actually defend the man if he'd advanced at all since he was 19. He can't not know the legitimate criticisms leveled against him. But he ignores them.

This has gone beyond cashing in and reached some sort of sick fetish stage. Three issues in a row? With Obama getting more action as the series progresses, where he's now fighting supervillains himself in ridiculous ways? Fuck, if Obama is starring in this fucking rag, shouldn't he get royalties?

Or, knowing that, despite his penchant for theft and shoddy work, Liefeld claims to be a member of the insane fringes of the religious right. Is he secretly trying to discredit the president with the handful of morons buying this shit?

That's pretty fucking sick. Involving Obama in comics is one thing, but shooting two secret service agents right in the head is way over the line.

And the art is just as hilariously bad as ever. I love the shot of the guy flying through the air with his legs tucked all the way behind him, and his arm just kind of out there while he punches a guy's head off. Also, Obama's gun switches hands every panel.
