Any of you planning to mail away for Doc?

Post by anarky »

I ask because, by my reckoning, I'm going to have more than enough certificates for mine.

It takes six. So far, I have
Snake Eyes vs Storm Shadow
Battle-Damaged Silent Castle Snake Eyes vs Storm Shadow
Tomax and Xamot
Ace vs Wild Weasel
Destro vs Breaker
"Scarface" Cobra Officer and Fred-Series Crimson Guard
Ripper and Buzzer

Which is seven. (I haven't opened the last one, but it doesn't look like it was tampered with, so I'm assuming the sticker is in there.)

There are supposed to be (I think) 15 sets over the year. Some of the ones I have are technically from last year, so I'm not entirely sure how many of this year's series I already have. The only other confirmed upcoming comic figure is yet another Storm Shadow (sigh), which I'll be getting since it's supposed to come with a yet-unseen Faceless Master version of Firefly. There's also a strongly rumored set with Lt Falcon and Nemesis Enforcer (I have no clue how that shithead's going to play into the comic, but I'd like Falcon, and the NE design was always pretty good).

So, I've got at least one extra sticker. No idea if any of the other sets will show up before the offer expires, but I could possibly get at least two more.

Plus, if the TRU three-pack with Duke, Hawk, and Grunt turns out to be impossible to get, I might get the set with Hawk and Scarlett. (I'd prefer Grunt, otherwise unavailable, but definitely need Hawk in his original uniform. I figure him in the leather jacket is a given for later.)

Anyone wanting Doc but a little short on stickers?

I'd take any you might have. I only have the Ace/Wild Weasel set and am planning on getting the Dreadnoks... but that's it so far. Any heppin would be hot.

No Tomax/Xamot or Unmasked CG for you?

Wow. That's a bit surprising.

Tomax and Xamot always looked so much fucking cooler than they ever were. They sucked something fierce.

Anyone have a spare copy of the Silent Interlude 2 comic? I really don't feel like hunting down and/or purchasing the figures, but I would like a copy of the comic.

Sigh. Not a spare one, and you probably know better than to ask me to part with my only copy of a Hama GIJoe book.

I did recently find out that there's ANOTHER silent "Silent Interlude" tie-in by Hama. It apparently is a prequel, showing how Snake Eyes and Wild Bill got onto the trail of Storm Shadow in the first place. It only ever appeared in the trade paperback of Snake Eyes Declassified, which, as we all know, was OOP within a week and going for triple digits on eBay.

I fucking hate you, Devil's Due.

However, since everything I know about you indicates you're as anal with comics as I am, I could possibly be convinced to let you read it at Comic-Con.

I'm going to bug the shit out of my friend who actually collects the figures to give me his copy. He's a comic fiend, but not like me.

I hate the Twins, mainly because of their simpering on the cartoon. Retarded. I might get the CG and scarred Cobra - I actually forgot about that one.

Tomax and Xamot were pretty fucking badass in the comics. Though it was due to a misunderstanding, they gave the order that resulted in the deaths of nine Joes--the first deaths aside from "non-toy" characters like Shooter and Mangler.

This is why the comics are cooler then the cartoon. The cartoon pandered to kiddies of low intellect and made all the villains two dimensional whiny buffoons. The comic was written by Larry Hama. Booyah!

Booyashakkah indeed. I did get the CG and Scarred Cobra two-pack, so I'm up to three with 3 to go. 8)

Are the comics just reprints of the old books with a new cover?

Some are, some aren't. There's usually a sticker that says "Classic Comic Inside" or "Exclusive Comic Inside." (I think the latter has been changed on the newest wave to specifically mention Larry Hama as the writer.)

Chux, chux, chux....thanks for talking me into buying those 2-packs. The comics were mediocre. In fact, the "Silence between Borders" was almost awful. Not a fan of that artwork. And the other one had good art, but the story was lacking. Especially after reading the Stormshadow series from DDP. It was like a 'shadow wannabe.

But the big disappointment was the figures. I don't know, maybe it's the size ( my big mitts had trouble handling them) or the fragility ( I was afraid every pose I put them in was going to end up with a busted limb) but I singularly unimpressed. But that just cements my decision to NOT get the Marvel Puniverse figures next spring.

Really? "Silence Between Borders" was lacking, but I dug the Storm Shadow/Firefly issue. I thought of it as the lost eighth issue of Storm Shadow. :)

I found the latest wave of the comic packs today. Wasn't expecting it at all. They didn't put in anything regarding the Doc offer.
