The new pvc free stuff is supposed to last longer, but yeah those will need to be replaced if they feel slimy or dusty & have been in boxes & out of the light for some time. They just break down. Good news, I've never found an old book at my place that was damaged inside bags & boards. I have, however, found a few that have left some staining on the board upon removal, that's just the acid bleeding out of the paper I believe. It happens.

Found a solution to a "What box is _________ in?" problem.
I attached one of those those individual trading card sleeves to the side of the box and cut an index card to fit inside it. Easy and inexpensive to swap out if the contents change.
Also figured out an easy divider solution: Poster board. I got 8 dividers out of one poster board. It leaves just enough room at the top in case I want to add the title for easier finding.

I like the poster board idea, nice job.

Agreed. That's cool. You could also get a multitude of different colors to alternate within a box.

Up to 2081 with my 90's X-Men, Uncanny, X-Force, Generation X, X-Whatevers and random things here and there.
I'm pretty sure I'm nearly finished cataloging them.

Not comic-related, but I've been going through literally hundreds of sw figures and accessories lately trying to bag them up in small lots to make it easier when I go to sell them (no I'm not done collecting but I'm ditching all my prequel stuff, which is an awful lot). The stress of going through 2, 3, 4 bins looking for one small clear plastic cup that you can't fucking find is god damn stressful. Stupid fucking hobby.
As it stands, I have yet to start sorting ROTS, 2002 Saga or EPI, so there's still a ton of work to do - but I've also managed to sell about $200 worth of loose figures so far so it's not all bad.

You had that harebrained notion before. My advice remains the same.

Holy balls! Thank gawd cooler heads prevailed! I can see doing something like in a spreadsheet on a computer. But physically doing it? Hell no. I'm flustered enough at the thought of eventually integrating the two (going on three) large yet separate collections I've accumulated.
But first I have to find a job.
Then I have to find a home with a mancave.
When that happens, you're all invited to the sorting party.
Oh, and the first one is done.
The second parts probably a ways off.

I recall thinking of it before & the replies....still having trouble getting the idea out of my head.

The only way I'd ever file books chronologically is if I'd been buying two copies if everything all along. Then I'd do one alpha and one chrono.
But then I'd have twice as many books.

I got the idea from the Marvel Masterworks forums (which I stopped visiting a long time ago as they are boring as fuck). They did, however have one interesting ongoing topic there about a Marvel-Age re-read session & discussion where the folks would read all the books from a single month & were working their way through the entire story in that fashion. It intrigued me a lot - but sadly I don't have a full run of masterworks (or the original comics for that matter

) that would have allowed me to follow along in a complete manner (and we all know how important completeness is, amiright?). I just think it would be really cool to see the full set of comics from a given month, back from when I would have been taking 45 min bus trips to get them for 75 cents each.

Reading every issue in a given month back in the 60s and 70s meant maybe 5 to 10 books. And maybe 12-15 in the 70s.
Nowadays Marvel puts out more issues in a month than they did in an entire year back in 1964.

Oh for sure. I wouldn't worry about having it like for much more than the 1980s. That same site (Masterworks) shows a pretty mind blowing stat - the entire Marvel Age of books - meaning basically from FF1 until the end of Kirby's run on FF (which coincided with the conclusion of the Silver Surfer series and was within a month or two of the cover change from 12 to 15 cents) was just over 300 books. 300. One long box & a bit more.
EDITED: Here's your checklist.

That long box would be extremely fucking valuable.
