My hopes aren't for something that matches the original. The supernatural element in this one seems... weird. But, still, Jack Sparrow and Legolas kick ass, and Keira Knightley still deserves a good biscuit-sopping.

They're filming #3 now, and I heard a rumor that they're trying to get Keith Richards to cameo as Jack's dad.

Last I heard, it was still unclear if they could get him. He wasn't sure if really wanted to or if he had the time.

Stufd? Is that the New Zealanderish way of saying upset? I don't blame you, we've had it for a couple of weeks up here.

I finally saw it only last night - lots of action, less story than the original. Very Empire Strikes Back with respect to the way it was left.

Yeah, I saw it opening night, but didn't want to ruin it for anybody. The ending totally pissed me off. Two hours into it, I was like "Ok, something big has to happen pretty soon, this thing has gotta end soon". Then the credits started rolling. It was like watching half of a 5 hour movie.

I laughed out loud at who showed up at the end there, which leads me to a theory:

SPOILER - THIS IS ONLY A THEORY, BUT IF IT PANS OUT IT MIGHT RUIN A SURPISE FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think the curse of the Black Pearl was really lifted in part one. The "undead monkey" was my first clue, Barbosa's return my 2nd.

Interesting, but I think Barbosa is indeed alive again. Why? The way he chomps on the apple. IN COTBP, there was the one thing he couldn't do that he really wanted to: eat. He said something about food turning to ash when he'd bite it and in DMC he seems to be loving that big bite he took.

As for the monkey, he stole another coin after the credits so he would still be cursed (or cursed again).

True, he loved the apple.... but it could have been a decoy (as could the monkey have been a decoy to get me seeing things my way).

Another supporting argument for the curse still being in effect is this: Jack can't die, can he? How else but some form of immortality could he get through the trial he faced at the end of DMC?

Interestingly enough, I had a couple of laughs but no real favorite part of DMC. My favorite part was just seeing the characters again! I thought the 3 mains did a great job, though Johnny was a little over the top with the "Jack-ness" near the beginning. The overall entertainment value was really high for me, though I'm not letting my kids see it for a while yet - still too scary with the monsters. The skeletons were bad enough the first go round.

How soon does part 3 come out???

Next summer.

Personally, methinks the swordfight was the best part. The Obi-Wan/Anakin duel should've been at least that good.

BTW, Davey was all CG. Even the eyes. That's an Oscar there, it is.

Davey was all CG? Holy carp! It looked so good that I actually was thinking that some of it was makeup. Daaaaaaamn!!!

As for the monkey being cursed did anyone watch the alternate ending for Curse of the Black Pearl? After the credits it shows the monkey stealing a coin.

I haven't read much of this thread but if that applies to anything then I'm awesome.

Yeah, I think we all knew why the monkey was undead, but not why he was hanging around the Black Pearl and wouldn't leave.

Yeah, at Comic-Con John Knoll gave a presentation on Davey Jones. I had absolutely no idea that he was all fake, because the eyes were perfect. They beat the next runner-up, Hulk, by miles and miles. They showed some funny outtakes, things like what happen when they plug the wrong number into one of the algorithms that controls tentacles and they flop around so violently it's distorting his mouth when he talks. I hope that it ends up on the DVD.

There were some "intentional" bloopers the visual effects crew did that he also showed. One particularly funny one, which he said was because most of the crew worked on ROTS, was Elizabeth fighting two crew members of the Flying Dutchman while wielding two lightsabers (it looked like Mace's and maybe Qui-Gon's).
