Winter Classic - Sabres vs. Penguins

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Whenever I see Landeskog's name, I immediately go through that one scene from The Tick vs. The Common Cold. Specifically the "Four yaks and a dog" part. It's dumb, but I can't help myself.

Adam Johnson from the Nottingham Panthers (EIHL) died on the ice last night after a freak accident and his throat was slashed by a skate.
Yikes. Hockey fans are all aware of the Clint Malarchuk injury in 1989 and how scary that was. And this kind of thing has happened a few other times over the years. How long before neck guards behind mandatory?

Very scary. There was a panthers player take a skate to the neck a few years ago but thankfully they got it under control super quickly.

They said Malarchuk might not have made if it he was on the other end of the ice that night. He happened to be in at the end with the medics. It happened to Richard Zednik in 2008, also in Buffalo.

Taking my dad to see McDavid in Detroit on Jan 11. Will be the first trip to the new rink for both of us.

Nice.
I haven't been to LCA either.
My last Red Wings game was the last year at the Joe.

On my drive home, I turned on the Sabres/Leafs game on XM. It was the Toronto feed since they were the home team. The play by play guys were ok. The people they had on during the intermission were horrible.

I'm being a bad human. I reserved some hockey cards (Upper Deck Series 2 hobby boxes because of the Conor Bedard rookie card for anyone who cares) a few months ago & got called to pick them up. The total was more than double what I was expecting to spend. Because of the demand, there has been some supply issues & of course the opportunity to scalp exists. Well I flipped one box for an $90 profit and am going to try & sell one more before holding onto the third.

The hobby gods will shun me for this in ways I'm not excited to learn about. :(

Apparently hockey in Phoenix is done. The NHL is working on moving the Coyotes to Salt Lake City.

Utah Elk(s) apparently. We shall see. I would have preferred Quebec City or Regina/Saskatoon - but it is what it is.

Winnipeg is struggling. Quebec City would probably have the same problem. Plus, the way the NHL looks at it, going to a new US city like Salt Lake would bring them more new fans. I thought Kansas City would be in the mix for an NHL team since the Penguins threatened to move there a while back.

The Elk? Ugh.

Eh, it was my heart talking, not my head. I know Salt Lake is a good choice, just as KC would have been - I think they even have the rink built, don't they?

The Return of the Scouts could have been a thing.

The Red Wings have managed to stay alive for another night after giving up a 3 (4?) goal lead, then beating Toronto in OT.
A loss would've eliminated them. They needed a point to stay in the race.

It's literally going to come down the last day of the season. The Wings are within a point as of last night.... but seem to be trending downward as the season winds down. The playoffs will be a great distraction from my every day life - can't wait for them to get started.
