Spending more time figuring out what to read next than actually reading....

Post by jjreason »

Kinda weird, but I procrastinate far longer than I should when trying to figure out what to read. I've got a pretty daunting list, mind you, but reading anything would at least pick away at it. Too much of the time I just look at everything & it feels exhausting, so I come here to bitch about it instead.

THE (PARTIAL) LIST OF WHAT TO READ NEXT:

Annihilation events & related series (about 80 books worth)
Month by month of silver age Marvel releases
Walking Dead trade paperbacks 1-16
Invincible trade paperbacks 1-15 or thereabouts
Sandman trades 1-10 (would be about 75% re-read, but it's been forever)
Alan Moore Swamp Thing trades
Preacher trades (again, a re-read but it has been so long)
Jason Aaron's last volume of Thor with War of the Realms & Jane Foster Valkyrie included
Detective comics 984-1000
Tom King Batman 51-86
----------

And there's always more, but that's the stuff I mull over starting right now. Hopefully just typing this out will get me to knock something off the list today.

Half the time I can’t even keep up with putting the new books I’m buying every week in their proper place. I’ll let two-three weeks worth of books stack up before I get around to boarding them and getting them in the right boxes.
And sometimes those boxes are full, so I’ll have to move either the front or the back of the boxes into different boxes to make room for those issues. Which then means I’ll have to move more books from THOSE boxes.

I’m not even sure what to classify my hobby as anymore.
I used to collect and read comics. Now I just rearrange them.
"No Tom Foolery today, Ron. I'm tired of looking at your dreadful, speckled mug."
"Why do you hurt me in this way, Harry?"
”It’s a grid system motherfucker. Eleven up and one over, you simple bitch.”

It dawned on me that it had become an accumulation as opposed to a collection - it started with the star wars first but comics came shortly after. In my dreams I have nice full bookcases of stuff I can just read & not worry about, maybe 10 long boxes of keeper comics (fewer if possible) & a few bins of star wars with some out on display. It's going to take some time to get there.
