DMZ 60, 62. Only 9 issues to go.

Prowler 6. Finished the recent mini/super short ongoing that spun out of Clone Conspiracy.
Transformers ReGenOne 0, 82, 84, 88-90, 92. All ‘A’ covers. Just need “A” covers 94 and 100 And “B” cover 97 and I’ll have them all.
First X-Men 4 and Marvel Knights X-Men 2. Finished both minis.
And 18 DC books. Some Nu52 and some Rebirth.

Also Superman 1, the new Bendis issue, Venom 2, which I missed, and a True Believer Ant-Man $1 book.

An actual Comic “Convention” (and not just the dealer show I usually attend). Spread my cash around at 11 different tables today.
Only came away with 220 issues, but it was a good haul. Here’s what I got, try and keep up!

Table 1 $1 each
Question 10. 3 issues left from the ‘87 series.
Spectre 18. 2 issues left from the ‘88 series.

Table 2 $1 each
Birds of Prey 4. 2 issues left from the ‘99 series. Including the inexplicably HTF issue 8 because Babs and Dick kissed for the first time. Who cares??
Gambit Annual 2000. 6 1/2 issues left to find in the ‘99 series.

Table 3 $1 each
Massive 1, 4.
Superboy’s Legion 2.
Ultimate Spidey 10, 12, 17. Only 14 Ult Spidey issues left and 29 issues from the entire Ultimate run.
And 9 DC Nu52 books.

Table 4 $1 each
Fables 68, 99, 101
JLA Gods And Monsters Prestige oneshot
Spider-Girl 79
Amazing Spider-Girl 16

Table 5 25 for $20
Gambit 15, 21.
Grendel vs Shadow 2, 3. Finished the Prestige mini.
Klaus 4-7. Just need issue 1 of Grant Morrison’s Santa “origin” story.
Old Man Logan 3.
Spider-Man Fair Tales 1. Finished the mini.
And 15 DC Nu52 issues.

Table 6 50 cents each.
Batman Streets of Gotham 21. Finished the series. But the copy is kinda beat up. If I see it again I’ll get a better copy.
Doc Savage 11, 14. 4 issues to go of the DC First Wave series.
Fables 51.
Haunt 13. 4 issues to go.
Hellcat 3. 2 issues to go.
New Mutants Dead Souls 1, 3-5. Just need issue 6 of the recent mini.
Planetary/Batman oneshot.
Scarlet 9. The final(?) issue of Bendis’ series at Marvel. Still need issue 8.
Slapstick 5. 1 to go.
Solo 4. 1 to go.
Star-Lord 3,4,6,Ann1. Need 5 and 7.
Thor:Deviants Saga 2. Finished the mini.
Thunderbolts 3, 5, 9, 11, 12. Only 2 issues to go from the newest ongoing. Malin’s Art is so godawful I need to mention it every time.
Weapon X 1, 2, 6, 8-16, 19, 20. Went from not having any of this series to only missing six issues. Boom.
Wolverine 5, 9. Finished the ‘14 series. And a mere 13 issues away from every Wolverine comic ever.
X-Men Blue 18-20.
X-Men Gold 16, 17, 19, 21-23, 29. I think this catches me up on Blue and Gold. Right before both series end next month.
And 29 DC Nu52 books.

Table 7 12 for $10
AAFES 2, 3.
Battlescars 1. To replace my torn copy.
Saga 28-30. I think this completes my run.
6 DC Nu52 books.

Table 8 20 for $5
Angela Queen of Hel 7. Just need issue 6.
Legionnaires 35, 77, 79.
Massive 20-27, 29, 30. Just missing 18 and 28.

A couple TF Best of UK issues.
A few more DC books.

Table 9 $1 each
Marvel Knights Hulk 4.
Legionnaires 72.
Tomb Raider 10.
Thunderbolts 6. Malin’s art sucks. Thankfully he only did the cover on this one.
A few more DC books.

SW TotJ Dark Lords of the Sith 3
SW Underworld 2
SW Union 1-4
SW X-Wing Rogue Squadron 1,3,4, 30 And Rogue Leader 1.
And a couple more DC books.

Table 11 $5 for one of them, $3 for the other.
Joker’s Asylum II: Harley Quinn oneshot. Finished this series of oneshots from 2008.
Excalibur: Weird War III. Graphic Novel. The last Excalibur issue I needed for a full run.

I need to get another long box to put them in. They’re spread out all over the living room floor right now.
I skipped the garage sale this year. Next dealer show isn’t until around Christmas I don’t think.

Medium score. LCS across the river was having a sale. Many 50 cent and $1 books. Found 53 in the 50 cent boxes and another 35 in the $1 boxes. Mix of very recent stuff and older stuff. Here’s what I got

Amazing Spidey 3. The newest series. The FF variant cover.
American Vampire 29. 10 issues to go.
Avengers Assemble Season 2, issue 2. Cool Iron Man cover.
Black Panther 9. Variant cover.
Cable 152, 155. Still need 7 more issues. Malin’s art sucks. HE SUCKS!
Dark Nights:Metal 1, 2. Not sure if this series is “Dark Nights” or “Metal”. Fuck you, DC. Pick a name and stick with it.
Deathblow/Wolverine oneshot. Not sure whether to put this in the ‘D’s’ or in the Wolverine box. Leaning towards the latter.
Defenders 10. Just need issue 8 from the Bendis run.
Domino 2. From the newest series.
Fables 147.
Falcon 3. 4 more issues to go.
Green Lantern 179. From 1984.
Hulk 709-711, 713-716. The Legacy renumbered series. Just missing issue 712. Didn’t have these on my list, but I’m 85% sure I don’t have them. Might have got them all at a previous sale and didn’t remember which is why they weren’t on my list. Hmmmm...
A Lone Ranger issue.
Monsters Unleashed 1, 12. The first and last issue of the ongoing. Still need 7 and 11.
Old Man Logan 39, 42, 43, 46.
Old Man Hawkeye 7.
Quicksilver 4.
Rocket Racoon 6. Not sure is this is the right issue 6 that I’m missing, since the little rodent has had like 12 ongoings in the last 5 years and none have lasted past issue 8. But the cover didn’t look familiar, so that’s a good sign.
Spider-Gwen 30.
Thor 11 and 12. Turns out I had these and the 11 and 12 I need are from the Thor series before this one. Goddammit.
Thunderbolts 8. Just need issue 4. MALIN IS A SHITTIER ARTIST THAN LIEFELD. It must be mentioned every time. Because he sucks.
Transformers Drift 1. Blank variant cover.
Transformers/Angry Birds 1, 2. Ugh. I’m mad this exists. I’m madder that I’m a TF completist. Ugh. Still need *barrrf* 3 and 4.
Venom 159. 2nd print variant. Because I need the issue.
Wetworks/Vampirella oneshot.
Bucky Barnes:Winter Soldier 4. Finished the series.
A couple issues of those Hunt for Wolverine minis. Wolverine is back and they’re milking the fuck out of it. Not falling for it. Except when I can get the books super cheap.
X-Men Grand Design Second Genesis 2.
X-Men Wakanda Forever 1.
Some True Believer Wolverine issues.

And then a bunch of DCNu52 and Rebirth issues.

Very nice. My big scores have been Amazon & Indigo deals on the Epic collection trade paperbacks - I'm working at filling out my Marvel Silver Age stories so I can read them all "month by month", like I would have had I been alive & interested back then.

I can’t remember the last time I actually “re-read” an older story arc or series.
Does reading DKR or Watchmen multiple times count?

But apart from that, I think it was when I pulled my old GIJoe collection out and binge read Hama’s run from 1 to 100. And that was back in 2000 or 2001.

I know I'll never read them again, even though I generally enjoyed them the first time.

All 3 Insufferable series. 8 issues, 4 issues, and 6 issues. Now I’m only missing 6 issues of Waid’s entire “trilogy”.

X-Men Firsts. Big reprint issue of Rogue, Gambit, Mr Sinister, and Wolverine’s first appearances.
X-Men Movie TRU Spec Ed.
Zorro 1-4, 6 The Papercutz series.
Zorro 9, 10, 14-20. Finished the 2011 series.

No one should need an excuse to draw chicks with big titties. On that note, I saw a Battle Chasers* video game in the clearance bin at WalMart - that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. A long time.

*Joe Madureira did Battle Chasers in the 90's following his run on X-Men, and he left a promising career in comics to work on videogames, at least back then.

One of the several other LCS in my area is run by this nice old guy who worked at a local aluminum factory as an engineer for several years and when he retired, he decided to follow his dream of opening a comic and ball card shop. When I worked at the movie theater, he would come in every Sunday to see a film, so I’d stop and say hey and we’d chat for a few minutes. As with all the other comic shops in the area, I’d stop in his every couple months and buy a few issues just to help them stay in business.
At the beginning of summer, he suffered a stroke. I stopped by his shop on FCBD amd there was a sign on the door explaining what had happened. Every few weeks, I’d stop by and see the same sign. This went on for six months. Finally, I went in a few weeks ago and he was there. We chatted about he’d been in rehab and recovery for the last few months. Thankfully he’s almost 100% recovered from it.

I stopped in Saturday.

Diamond had just shipped him the last six months of back issues he’d ordered. ALL AT ONCE.

Anybody who collects comics and has the slightest inclination about how the business works, knows it’s about having the NEW product every week. He is now stuck with I don’t how much fucking OLD merch. He’s having a 25% off sale, but I don’t know how much that’s gonna help. I seriously hope this doesn’t put him under, but goddamn.

Anyway, I came in a bought a bunch of back issues at nearly full price just to try and kinda help offset this bullshit. I’m not made of money, but I feel bad for the guy. Here’s what I got. It was like $75 worth of books I got for $56 after taxes. Here’s what I got:

Infinity Warps: Arach-Knight 1
Dr Strange 6
America 12. Finished off her short lived ongoing.
Dr Strange:Damnation 2
Harley Quinn 8, 21, 22, 25, 26, 28, 29. A bunch of Cho variant covers. Already had 30 onwards, so now I’m just looking for those 9 thru 20 issues.
Iceman 11. The last issue of his short ongoing from last year. Still need 8-10.
Spider-Gwen 29.
Thanos 3, 5-9. Just need issue 2.

I normally never pay that much for back issues, but this was an extenuating circumstance. I’ll try and go back in a couple weeks and get some more but his store is a clusterfuck right now. Hard to find anything.

46 books out of the $1 bins at a LCS across the river.

Batman:Creature of the Night 1,2. Prestige format mini(they still do Prestige books?) by Busiek and John Paul Leon from 2018. Still need the third final issue.
Bullseye 3,4. From the mini from a couple years ago. Still need the 5th final issue.
Dr. Strange 381-384. Still need 385-387 from the Legacy renumbering series.
Dr. Strange and the Sorcerors Supreme 9-12. Just need issue 8 now.
Fatale 1-3,6,7,11,18,20,24. Just need 19 and 23. The issues were a little banged up, but not horrible.
Scarlet 8 and 10, and 1-4 from the new series. Don’t know what issue it’s on, but finished the first series.
Star-Lord Megazine. From 1996. Might’ve already had a copy, but better safe than sorry for a buck.
Ben Reilly:Scarlet Spider 10. Just need 1 and 4 now.
Ultimate Miles Morales 9. Just need issue 1.
Venom;First Host 2. A weekly mini that came out last fall. Need 3-5.
Before Watchmen; Moloch 2 and Comedian 5. Just need Comedian 3 and 6 and I’ll have all the BW books.
Weapon X 18, 21. Just need 3, 7, and 17.
Wolverines 18. Finished the series.
Astonishing X-Men 6. Just need 7 and 8(according to my phone list, I don’t think that’s right) from the most recent series.
And 10 DC Nu52 books.

They had a bunch of Rebirth books and I could’ve made some huge dents in a lot of series, but I didn’t feel like shelling out $1 a book for them.

Next up are TWO comic shows this month. One on the 15th amd the other on the 30th.

I actually liked Dr Strange & the Sorceror's Supreme. Not surprised when it ended, it read more like a planned 12 issue mini series than an ongoing. Plus we're talking about a guy who's book gets canceled all the time - trying to float 2 books was movie-driven folly anyhow.

Much of that has to do with generating TPB fodder to sell to retail Bookstore chains like Borders, etc. They don’t like floppies, but order a lot of Trades. So when a movie comes out, you’ll see a lot of minis or second ongoings just long enough to add a few more TPBs to their catalog.
They’ll also repackage older stories in a fancy new covers.

Makes sense. If it allows for good stories like that one to be produced, I'm all for it. I just "worry" (maybe "wonder" is better) that the continued production of so many poor selling floppies isn't going to be the cause of them discontinuing overall production of comic books period. :(
