Re: Pixar Films!
Just got back from seeing Toy Story 3.
It was really good, but I wasn't as blown away as most people seem to be.
And the scene mentioned earlier was pretty damn dark!
The 3D didn't do much of anything for me. It only worked a handful of times. Most of the time I didn't even realize it was 3D. Up used the 3D far better.

Re: Pixar Films!
I didn't see it in 3D. I figured I saw the first two in regular 2D, I might as well experience this one the same way, and then I can go watch it again later on in 3D if I want.
Hey, remember when Pixar went through their "Hal Needham" phase and had faux outtakes at the end of their films? Do they still have those on the DVDs? I've missed those on the later films.

Re: Pixar Films!
Here's an interesting question that maybe someone here can answer:
Is there any information on a Cars 2 DVD?
I mean one that's not in a combo pack with a BluRay. Even aside from the fact that I don't have or want a BluRay player, I find it ridiculously wasteful to buy the same movie on two separate formats. And I'm certainly not a fan of the $10-higher price for the combo sets.
Maybe I'm insane, but I thought it was a shit-ton better than the mediocre first one.

Re: Pixar Films!
What, you don't want it on VHS, you technology hatin' muthafuckka?
So far I've only seen the box art for the DVD/Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray/DVD and 3D Blu-Ray.
It looks like the only difference in the two combo packs is going to be case size, so they can put one version in a DVD case in the DVD section and the Blu-Ray case and in the Blu-Ray section. Which I guess is good if you're anal about the case size on your shelf.
With the home video market slowly forcing the shift to Blu-Ray and Disney always over charging for their shit ([sarcasm] because they apparently don't have enough money [/sarcasm]), I wouldn't be surprised if they don't release a standard DVD.
As I've said before, the only reason I have a Blu-Ray player is because of my PS3.
And there have been a few times where getting the Blu-Ray or combo pack has been the same, or very close to the same price as the DVD (or even cheaper for the combo pack in the case of Black Swan).
But still far too often the price of the Blu-Ray is riddamndiculous compared to DVD. $15 for the DVD or $25 for the Blu-Ray with no decent extra content for the extra money? Fuck you, I'll take the DVD. I didn't need to see The King's Speech in HD anyway.

Re: Pixar Films!
In all seriousness, DB, you are the most sane, rational person I know who has a BluRay player.
I would not be surprised if they delay the DVD, or at least the announcement of the DVD, to get people to snatch up the combo pack. But, really, Pixar movies have averaged about $15 (since they stopped doing DVD special editions; I think Wall-E was the last of those), and the combo pack is about $27. Quite a difference.

I love movies, but I don't see the point in getting a boner over resolution that really doesn't matter to 99% of people, even me. Its not like DVD coats the film in mud.anarky wrote:In all seriousness, DB, you are the most sane, rational person I know who has a BluRay player.
My personal rule on "double dipping" for a Blu-Ray when I already have the DVD is all about price.
I got The Dark Knight for only $5 on Blu-Ray at Christmas.
I bought X-Men 1 & 2 for $8 each because they also had a free ticket for X-Men: First Class (I was going to pay at least $8 at the theater anyway, so I might as well get a Blu-Ray essentially free).
And I bought Dumb And Dumber recently because I simply couldn't find a DVD that wasn't the 2-in-1 with Dumb And Dumberer - I was willing to pay more so I could NOT own that movie.

Re: Pixar Films!
Off-subject, I have a few double-dip blu-rays. I got Speed Racer because, well, it's so visually amazing I wanted to upgrade when I saw it for five bucks. And a brother-in-law (one who didn't get us the player) got me a threefer (which I wouldn't have gotten, preferring single movies with bonus features) that had Corpse Bride and Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (along with Beetlejuice, which, surprisingly, we didn't have yet).
On-subject, is Monsters University potentially the dumbest idea Pixar's had? You can't make a sequel to Monsters Inc. Period. With that amazing ending, there's no way to do it without cheapening the original. But a prequel? Sure, why not. Only, um, the entire monster world is built on a huge lie! And now we see our future heroes learning to live by that lie. There's no way I can see to do it without making them either A) evil, because they will learn to scare the hell out of kids, or B) the biggest putzes around. There can be absolutely no sympathy for children in this movie, or it contradicts the first.
I'm going to probably see it, since I have a daughter who wants to, but I can't come up with any way it won't be a mess. I'll be incredibly impressed if it's even passable.

Re: Pixar Films!
I'm one of the few people who wasn't totally impressed with Monsters, Inc.
I rewatched it a few months back and it I still don't see what the big deal is.
Good? Yes. Great? No.

Re: Pixar Films!
Pixar is going apeshit with sequels. Counting the two upcoming films, fully 1/3rd of their library are sequels. And only 6 of the 15 films aren't "franchise" films. And of those six, I'd say three are sure bets to get sequels(Incredibles, Wall-E, Brave) and one did well enough they're probably itching to find a way to follow it (Up). I'd say the chances of A Bug's Life and Ratatouille getting sequels are slim.

Re: Pixar Films!
A Brave sequel would be iffy.
A Wall-E sequel would cheapen the original.
An Incredibles sequel, though, is such a fucking no-brainer that I'm not sure why we got Cars 2 and Monsters University first.
Also, the number is even more disappointing if you count the non-Pixar sequels to Pixar films. Off the top of my head, I know of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and the upcoming Planes. The first looked like a shitty 2D movie that the kids in the Toy Story universe might've watched so the toy company could sell Buzzes. Planes has the honor of using White Zombie's "More Human Than Human" in the trailer, which may be the most bizarre use of music in a trailer that I've ever seen. (I keep wanting to hear some of the f-bombs Rob Zombie drops in that song, but, alas, it's cleverly edited.)
By the way, I appear to be the only person who not only doesn't hate Cars 2, but find it vastly superior to the original. Even though it featured more Mater (ugh), they at least tried to make him a character and not the same gag over and over. Also, Michael Giacchino does a kickass score that's like the love child of The Incredibles and Speed Racer.

Re: Pixar Films!
I'd say Incredibles 2 hasn't happened yet because Brad Bird was busy making live action stuff. I highly doubt Pixar would let I2 would happen without him.
Cars2 is the only Pixar movie I've yet to see.

Willem Dafoe says 'Finding Nemo' sequel is better than first
Actor Willem Dafoe, the voice of Gill in Pixar's "Finding Nemo" said the movie's sequel, "Finding Dory" is "even better than the first."
Dafoe told Total Film he's started work reprising the vocals for his character and is excited about the film, which is scheduled to premiere June 17, 2016.
“Yeah I’ve already started,” he said. “It’s even better than the first. It’s fantastic. It’s good to say I think it’s going to be better than the first; that’s good advertising!”
"Finding Dory" focusing on Ellen Degeneres' titular character trying to reunite with her family.
“It’s difficult to repeat a success and so many years afterwards, but it’s really cool,” Dafoe said. “I've done one session so far and I just am going to have such a good time.”

Re: Pixar Films!
I found Ratatouille tedious. I didn't care for a single character. I'm finding Pixar's work lacks endearing characters. perhaps the dog from UP! or Mirage from The Incredibles. I just don't feel anything for any of the characters Pixar push forward as heroes. Inside out may be the first Pixar movie I actively avoid. I also think John Lasseter is a turd who needs annihilating. His decision to go for another Toy Story movie is utterly turd-like and stinks of straight to DVD bargain bin turdness. Finding Dory? Blah. The good Dinosaur? Blah. Fuck Lasseter off and get someone relevant in to the top office.
I have never read any of your posts, but from what I can learn I should say that for people who like the kind of posts you deliver, they are just the kind of posts such people like.

Inside Out is actually really fantastic. i think it's the best movie Pixney has made yet.
Life is short. STUNT IT!
