i just have to say, i received batman: year one for my birthday and it's so much better than this movie. they should've just straight up adapted it word-for-word, panel-for-panel, sin city style. MAYBE they could throw in an actual super-villain, as BM:YO is a little light on the evil guys, just mainly crooked cops, but i don't think it would've been necessary.
but until i finish my time machine and can go back and re-write the screenplay, i'll just have to deal.

Personally, I don't find the... fascination with making superhero films dark. I don't go out at night. It's hard to see in the dark when wearing this... costume.
I was gravely insulted by one detail in this film: they forgot the eyebrows on my costume... again. Such an important detail, so easily rectified, and Hollywood cannot seem to get it right. I wrote a scathing letter to the editor of the Gotham Tribune. Hopefully Hollywood gets it right. They came so close almost ten years ago with Batman and Robin.
And such violence. Tsk, tsk. I would never engage in such brutality. A simple punch and kick, accompanied, of course, by graphics and musical crescendoes, would have sufficed in every scene of the film.
I'm not sure where they came up with this chap, Lucius... Fox. There are no colored people in Gotham. Aside from Catwoman, of course, who suddenly went from a white lady to a Negro. Truth be told, though a gentleman does not discuss in detail, she was less kitten in bed after her... inexplicable darkening, and more the tiger. But those... primitive sorts generally are better lovers, being more... animalistic than us Aryans.
Since I brought up the colored Catwoman, and she prefers... doggystyle, I couldn't help but notice the absence of a good friend of mine who also recently returned to the big screen. Scooby-Doo would have been most helpful to this... imaginary... Batman. I have not yet spoken with the real Scooby on this matter, but it seems he has more... control regarding the quality of films that use his name and likeness than do I.
I don't want to get started on this "R'as al Ghul" villain. My word, what sort of villain... is... he? He has no gimmick, no brightly-colored costume, and he did not once attempt to rob the bank. Such ridiculousness is almost enough to... make... me mad. But that would be unseemly for a pillar... of the community such as... myself. If you'll excuse me... I'll have to... retire to the study of my... secret identity's stately manor, and sip some herbal tea so as to... assuage my irritation.

True, just as long as you're not talking about the Jack Nicholson or Mark Hamill Joker.Senor JabbaJohnL wrote:He got less gay and more awesome.

Love the ad for the Gotham National Bank.
Pretty decent promo piece, though it could've been better. For one thing, I think the articles would've been a tad more realistic were they written in standard AP style, and it would've been hella easy to get someone familiar with that style to re-write them. Major papers often deviate from the style, but not by that much. This is like a paper with all features and no news articles. Just a minor quibble, given my background. Even if most people notice something odd about the writing style, they won't be able to put their finger on it.
Second, it would've been clever if all the incidental people referred to were actual characters from Batman comics who will never appear in the movies. There have been a shitload of civilians, even minor heroes and villains, who could've played a role. I doubt all the background folk referred to here will appear in the series at all.
Third, a great nod to hardcore Bat-fans would've been if one of the letters to the editor were attributed to Dave Stang. I have a feeling Rollo might get that one. His knowledge of minor details from comics that are older than JJL is even scarier than my own. And I've already checked; a Google search won't help you one bit. (If you're all stumped, let me know and I'll spill it.)

Dave Stang....is on the tip of my tongue. But I can't place the reference.
I did enjoy the "correction" on the second page. "Handsome guy with a great smile seeking clowns for discrete encounters."

Want me to spill it, or see if DB or JJ know? (I'm assuming vyn isn't guessing since he's been online since I posted that and has probably read it.)

Re: Batman Begins: The best superhero film of all time
It's from the first Anarky story, still the only great Anarky story and one of the best Batman stories ever.
In part one, a mysterious vigilante (Anarky, duh) is going around, uh, vigilanteing. He picks his targets based on letters to the editor about crime or corporate abuses that are printed in the Gotham paper, and makes it clear each time that he's answering the letter (by leaving a copy on the scene, or by filming the proceedings and sending it to the television stations and informing the writer of the letter that the problem will be stopped). He thinks he is serving the will of the people.
In the earliest incident, a letter was written to the paper by a Dave Stang, complaining about members of a street gang in a rough area. When Batman investigated the gang members being beaten to a pulp, he found the letter. He went to the address that was in the newspaper's archives ('cause he's bad like that, and can break in to read files undetected), and startled an old woman nearly to death. When he asks about Dave Stang, the woman reveals that she wanted the cops to do something about the gang, but was afraid of retribution and used a tough sounding name. Batman comments that he probably doesn't need to question her about their beating and leaves. As he leaves, she tells him to keep up the good work.
But, since it was a letter to the editor, that would've been a cool touch to use the name in the paper.

Re: Batman Begins: The best superhero film of all time
Bah! I could've made a better movie than that! Did you know I was slated to take over the franchise from Joel Schumacher back in '98? I was really excited, because "Batman and Robin" was one of my favorite movies ever. I was going to direct "Batman, Robin and Batgirl", (which would have been one of the most awesome titles EVER) and George Clooney, Chris O' Donnell and Alicia Silverstone would have all came back as the main roles. As for the villains, I was going to include a whole bunch of villains too. My cast would have been Andy Dick as the Mad Hatter, Jenna Elfman as Harley Quinn (she would have been Mad Hatter's sidekick...fuck comic continuity, this is MY vision), as Clayface and "Macho Man" Randy Savage as Killer Croc. We tried to get Dustin Hoffman to play Bat-Mite, but he hung up the phone. Clayface and Killer Croc would have been comic relief villains. I had this great scene planned out where Mad Hatter orders them to make him some coffee and of course, hijinks ensue. They spill coffee grounds everywhere and Mad Hatter comes in and says "That's GROUNDS for punishment!" It would have been great. Also, instead of driving the Batmobile, Batman would have drove a Lamborghini. Unfortunately the movie didn't pan out and I made "Pearl Harbor" instead. I called Warner Bros by the time "Batman Begins" was in the planning stages but they didn't return my calls. That's okay. Fuck 'em. I made "The Island" instead, which was TOTALLY a better movie than "Batman Begins". I mean, the batsuit didn't even have nipples!!!
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go masturbate to a picture of myself.

Well, it's just, you know, listen, it's like...I didn't want to make the boxy characters, you know? Think about it, 30 feet in the air in the real world, just boxes, you know and it'd just look more fake, you know? And by adding more doo-dads, you know, stuff on the...stuff. Stuff on the robots, more car parts, and...you know you can just make it look more real.
