What have you watched lately?

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

Ready Player One - Another fun, popcorn flick. Half the fun is spotting the eggs. I'm pretty sure I even saw some Battletoads.

I really think this story would have been much better as a tv show. They would have been able to expand the world, the plot, and the characters - give it room to breath and spread the contest/challenges/race out over a few seasons. It would have been expensive as all hell, but I think it would have worked better.

One of Spielberg's lesser movies though. It's not very Spielbergian. I'd say it was a good job for just about any other director. Maybe Steven has lost his big-budget mojo?

Oh, and Olivia Cooke. Yum.

Found this image online.
Pretty sure that's the battletoad at the bottom.

And I somehow forgot to mention a very shiny ship makes an appearance.

I should be excited for this, but I just can't bring myself to care. The "omigod, it's the Iron Giant and Doc Brown's DeLorean!!" wore off after the trailer, and it's hard for me to keep an open mind and not think it's Stephen Spielberg trying too hard to seem cool again by tossing a ton of Easter eggs at the screen.

A guy I work with is really excited about Ready Player One. He described it to me and it sounded alright. Seemed like a similar plot to The Lego Movie.
Also, it sort of reminded me of Hasbro putting out all those new Star Wars and GI Joe figures on vintage style cards...x 1,000,000. Nostalgia overload. And since it was brought up, how many people would get a Battletoads reference? Were they more popular than I remember? I remember the NES game, but thought it was just one of many TMNT clones around that time.

Last night I watched The Great Escape. It is just one of those movies that I have to stop and watch if it is on.

Out of the blue yesterday I get a text from my father. It said that I should read Ready Player One. I asked "As in the movie?" He said "no, the movie sucked and the book was way better."

Andre The Giant Documentary. Very well done. Lots of interviews from big names. I liked how they took a few minutes to discuss his farts. And, kind of depressing.

RPO is based on a book? does the book have the same level of nostalgia overload, or was that a construct of the adaptation?

Looks like the book came out in 2011. My father really liked it.

When I got home yesterday from FCBD i turned on Hulu and saw they had new selections up. I enjoyed the double feature of
Executive Decision and Demolition Man.

It was an enjoyable afternoon of 90s cheese action movies.

Saw Spiderman Homecoming over the weekend. It was better than I expected. It made me realize that I really don't remember much about the Toby McGuire Spiderman movie.

The awful Spider-Man 3 movie erased everything decent we remember from the first two Spidey movies. When you think of Maguire’s Spidey all you can think of is that atrocious emo dancing bullshit and nothing else.

Since I just marathoned thru the entire MCU series leading up to Infinity War, I’ve been mulling the idea of watching the NON-MCU Marvel movies in a similar fashion. All the X-Men, Spidey, the FF, Ghost Riders, Daredevils, Punishers, etc.
starting with Blade.
It’ll hurt a little. There’s some shit in there.

I never saw Spider-man 3. All I remember about the first two was the stupid upside down kiss in the rain and the weird Green Goblin helmet.

Also, I did catch part of the first Avengers movie. There were a few things I picked up on that I either missed or forgot about, like the shawarma reference.

Watched Bladerunner 2049. It was long and slow, but overall okay.

My father reiterated that the Ready Player One book was better than the movie, and one of my brothers agreed. The book has all the 80s references.
