Really? I thought WWZ was great.
I recently started Killing Pablo by Mark Bowden, about the life, hunt for, and death of notorious cocaine kingpin Pablo Escabar. So far, not too bad.

Everything I know about Pablo Escobar I learned from watching Entourage.
WWZ wasn't a bad book, I liked the technique & found most of the conversations intriguing, I guess I just kinda felt at times like it was a bit "Forest Gumpish" in how he kept referring to real life people through suggestion (ie Mandela, the comic I took to be Dice Clay but could have been Louis CK I guess) as opposed to just coming out & naming them - or leaving them out of it.

Child of Vengeance, by David Kirk.

Re: What'cha readin', you illiterate fuck?
I bought Divergent for my daughter for Christmas, and since I saw the trailer on Hunger Games II, I decided to read it quickly before I wrap it for her. (Digressive inquiry; is that wrong? Would that technically make it a "used" gift or something? I'm being extra careful not to bend the spine.)
Anyway, I'm only about 60 pages in. It's almost 500 pages but I'll have it done by the weekend.
But it occurred to me I've recently sorta been reduced to reading young adult books recommended by my kids because they're being turned into feature films. The previous three books I read were the Hunger Games Trilogy.

Hunger Games is/are a fast read. I literally got through both the 2nd and 3rd book in ten hours.
My sister lent me Grisham's The Litigators and it's been sitting on my shelf for weeks, taunting me.
All my free time is spent reading my unread comics.

Elmore Leonard's Rum Punch took up some of my vacation time. Tarantino's Jackie Brown was based on this book & is quite faithful to the source material. His crime books are always a hit with me, this was no different. I also finished off Unrepentant, which is the quasi-autobiography of a Hells Angels member from nearby. Vaguely interesting for work reasons.

because anarky and i are the only two people on the planet who liked "John Carter", i picked up a copy of "A Princess of Mars" at Powell's Books in Portland, OR and have been reading it as i can. LOTS of stuff was cribbed by star wars, btw.
Life is short. STUNT IT!

I just started reading a Jack Reacher novel a friend from work lent me. I'm only on like the 4th chapter.

I have some of the books digitally. When the movie came out Amazon had a collection of them for the Kindle for like $2.99. I started the first book, but didn't get very far. I have a hard time getting into books on my Kindle. It's not the same.

That quote about comics being like boobs - nice on the computer but being unfuckingbelievable in real life (mis-attributed, I'm sure, to Stan Lee) also applies to books & newspapers. It's just not the same.

true, there's only one letter difference between boobs and books, so it's a completely appropriate analogy.jjreason wrote:That quote about comics being like boobs - nice on the computer but being unfuckingbelievable in real life (mis-attributed, I'm sure, to Stan Lee) also applies to books & newspapers. I have never read any of your posts, but from what I can learn I should say that for people who like the kind of posts you deliver, they are just the kind of posts such people like.
