Choose your own Adventure
I am reminiscing about these cool "Choose Your Path" books I read back in elementary school and I can't find anything about them. They were called "Intergalactic Spy" or something and you had to use deductive reasoning and problem solving skills to progress down the correct path to the end of the novel. There were perhaps six or seven of them in total and I can't seem to find anything about them. Ultimately I would like to track down a set and buy it (used) but right now I just want to find a wiki entry with the name of the series or something like that.

Re: Choose your own Adventure
I read a bunch of those in elementary school. I remember reading stuff like "Jurassic Park" and "Goosebumps" choose your own adventure books. I would always cheat by looking ahead, though. But hey, who didn't?
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

Re: Choose your own Adventure
This was more of a specific series that was along the lines of CYOA, but different.
But as long as we're talking about it, I had some old Transformers versions. One had Grimlock and Bumblebee underwater or something. I don't remember too well.
I also liked T.A.C.K secret service, and Encyclopedia Brown, which had that problem solving aspect to them. Just not in a "choose wrong and Ghengis Khan chops your head off" kind of way...
And then there was a series that had you writing basic computer programs (on your Commodore or TI64A or whatever) as part of the storyline. I only had one or two of those, but I remember it being an entire series of books. Forget the name of that one, too.

I read some of those Choose your own adventure books, but I don't know which ones. The only think I remember is that cover looked something like this:

Those kinds of covers are familiar. Those were the shit back in first grade . . . I think I even have some Star Wars ones.

Re: Choose your own Adventure
I never commented here. Weird.
I had some of the Transformers ones, too.
I remember fondly the Time Machine series. I think they were a spinoff from the CYOA line. The main CYOA writer (Peck? Packard?) wrote several of them. You go back in time to find some artifact, or answer some question, and some choices had links to an appendix that would offer advice based on the historical introduction. You also had to pick a certain number of items to take with you from a list of possibilities, and what you took would make a difference during the story. Only problem was you couldn't lose; worst case, you went back to the beginning. (The explanation was that the book was an actual time machine, and it would save you if you were ever in danger.)
But that series got me hooked on feudal Japan and the sword-wielding folks who lived there, and you actually did learn some history from the books. Not a lot, but some.
