Why is it that Liefeld still walks the earth, and the good ones pass on?

because he made a deal with the devil to make certain people inexplicably worship the ground he walks on.
can't say i was a huge fan of his work, as i'm not so into the x-men as other, more red and blue characters, but some of his creations are my favorites - nightcrawler especially.

He was like Gil Kane or Jack Kirby -- even if you weren't a fan of his work per se, you had to admire the impact he had.

yeah, when I think vintage X-Men, I don't think Byrne. The image in my head is Cockrum's work.
He will be sorely missed.

I am not kidding, though I wish I was.
I just read this over at
Newsarama. He apparently suffered a massive heart attack at the relatively young age of 44.
Don't know if you actually saw the man in person, vyn, but I had a chance to meet him at several conventions before he hit it big. He earned the moniker "nicest guy in comics."

The creator of the Rocketeer, dead at 53 from leukemia.
So it goes.

That's sad. And scary. When I was a kid 53 seemed ancient. But now it's right around the corner for me... I would hate to think I only have that much time left.
We'll miss you Dave. Thanks for everything.

I'd rather not even know.
I don't wanna think I'm 2/3 of the way there, either.

Damn. I wouldn't call myself a fan of his but he was sure talented.
And was pretty darn good at drawing hot chicks.
