Re: Making the Move to Digital
Marvel and DC have been doing "digital first" series for awhile.
The series where Deadpool met his wife Shiklah was a digital first series. As was the Deadpool/Cable series Split Second.
Spider-Man/Silk:The Spider(Fly) Effect was DF.
Over at DC, they relaunched Legends of the Dark Knight as DF, and there was a Wonder Woman ongoing called Sensation Comics that was DF.
There've been tons of other series, those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

But Comixology originals? I guess that's where I saw the new ground being broken.

Be mad at Comixology later - today you can get a copy of the brand new Jim Starlin/Alan Davis "Infinity Siblings" Original Graphic Novel for 99 cents. It's a $35 book up here in Canada.

Comixology is giving away nearly a zillion free comics right now - go have a look if you have time. Also I believe Marvel Unlimited is offering a free trial - I haven't done this yet but if you do, make sure you cancel before they charge your card.

And no, for what it's worth, I don't really like reading them that way either.

Seriously, I will not make the switch to digital.

And a lot of people agree.
The companies that own the publishers are too stupid to care. They'll just say lower digital numbers mean there were fewer readers to begin with.

They have the IP, the dwindling sales don't mean squat to them. Sometimes I think they keep publishing because they feel like they have to.

Comics are still the breeding ground for the next big IP. They will take the losses on publishing in order to reap the rewards later.

Re: Making the Move to Digital
Internally, the parent companies (Disney and AT&T) probably see the publishing arm as a sort of marketing/advertising sunk cost. As long as they are paying for themselves but not turning a big enough profit, they are content to let them keep running.
AT&T in particular does not give a fuck about DC in general other than that includes the Batman and Superman IPs. And to a lesser extent Flash, WW, etc. But mostly Batman.
I’m not a digital guy because I can’t hold a digital copy in my hand. If I spent as much on digital as I do on floppies and then somewhere some server crashes or my hard drive fries or comixology gets into a beef with a publisher over content or half a hundred other scenarios, then you’ve spent real money on literally something that doesn’t physically exist. No thank you.

Re: Making the Move to Digital
That is the problem. That's why they offer netflix type options where you dont own shit, you're paying for access that can change at any time... and that's likely the best way to get bang for your buck.

Re: Making the Move to Digital
So, any input on Marvel Comics Unlimited? It looks like they have an absurd number of comics for $70 per year. To me, it sounds like a no-brainer just to be able to read ridiculously overpriced old comics, or to let the kids read stuff like the first appearances of Luke Cage or Gambit without worrying about them messing the comics up. And the selection looks infinitely better than it did at launch.
So, anyone know of a good reason I shouldn't try it?

Re: Making the Move to Digital
I think it's a good deal as long as you're cool paying for "access only" (I'm not sure if they let you download files to store offline or not honestly).
To sweeten the pot, they have recently shortened the delay from print - it used to be 6 months, now digital copies show up 3 months after book release.
