Ah, good call. I was going off a list of IDW books, so a Marvel published book would’ve been missed.

Here is a fun little “Fuck Me”.

Remember the War Within minis?
There was a six issue War Within series.
Then the follow up six issue War Within:Dark Ages series.
Finally War Within:Age of Wrath which only has three issues because I think the publisher went kaput around that time.

I have managed to track down all the issues with the exception of one: Dark Ages issue 2. It has eluded me for years. Maybe even more than a decade. I come across War Within issues all the friggin time, but never Dark Ages 2.

So I’m looking on ComicRealm today and on a whim, I pull up the image of Dark Ages 2 to see what the book that’s been avoiding me for years looks like. Do you know what’s missing on the cover of Dark Ages 2?

The fucking Subtitle “The Dark Ages”.

Issue 1 has it. Issue 3 has it. Issue 2 just says War Within. So I’ve probably seen this goddamn issue half a hundred times in the last decade and said “oh that’s War Within 2. I already have that one. I need Dark Ages 2. Why can’t I ever find it??”

Mother. Fucker.

But at least now I know. And I know what it looks like.

My incredibly talented GF made a shadow box for me.
She made a 3D cutout of the very first issue I bought that kickstarted my collecting of comics.
It’s the fucking shizznit, yo.

I’m cataloging books on comicbookrealm, and I just got to IDW’s TF vs GIJoe. I had completely forgotten about this series until I clicked on the series and the first cover popped up. Then I remembered.

Ugh.

Ugh.
Still one of the worst fucking comics I've ever tried to read.

And I want to bitch-slap the stupid out of everyone who defends it by saying it's like Jack Kirby. Fuck you. Jack Kirby could squeeze crud out of an ass zit that looked better than that.

I started reading the new ‘reboot’ IDW series last weekend. Maybe its because my immersion in Transformers has waned since the 80s, but I have to keep the TFwiki page open on my tablet because there are SO MANY CHARACTERS and I have to investigate 75% of them to see if it’s an actual TF with a history and toys, or if its just a made up name because they need cannon fodder. More than 50% of the time it’s the former. Also, in many cases, the figure was either a Botcon exclusive figure, or a Hasbro Subcription. Like….a lot.

Also also, TFwiki is a treasure and at the same time, a rabbit hole. I have to be careful because it is so thorough and entertaining to read entries in there, I will forget about reading the actual comics and just do a deep dive into RoadRage and Crosscut and all these other “Gen1” characters that retroactively existed after the original G1 ended.

I love the silly captions on TFWiki, as well as the articles written in-character.

I have the collections of the new IDW run, all in hardback since they decided to do hardback instead of paperback but at least they're twice as thick so the markup doesn't sting as much. I still haven't read any. I guess it's because the previous series was SO FUCKING GOOD and I'm still bitter that Hasbro meddled and canned that series, but I know I will eventually want to read.

What the fuck is going on with the TF and Joe licenses? Even Hama doesn't seem to know and says he ended #300 so it could function as a cliffhanger or series finale.

This panel from issue 6 of Transformers Galaxies made me chuckle.

Two items of interest.
First, Simon Furman is writing a new comic called Astrobots which is supposedly based on a new toy line that some guys are trying to get launched. I missed issue 1, but got the second one. The characters are very TF looking.

Second, Robert Kirkman put out a new book this week called Void Rivals. And apparently it’s the back door introduction to his new “Energon-Verse” with new TF and GIJoe books coming soon. Had I known, I would’ve grabbed a copy.
But he said they’re keeping the number of ongoing titles to four so readers can follow along. They’ll do a few Joe minis for Duke, Cobra Commander, etc as well as a new TF book, and the aforementioned Void Rivals which is his own creation shoehorned into the new universe.

There was an article about the new Transformers movie that said there was an end credit scene that basically kicked off the crossover. It looks like they timed the comic announcement with the release of the movie. I'm still holding a slight grudge with anarky for talking me into watching the Bumblebee movie. It seems like some things are just meant to be in comics or cartoons and not live action.

Oh man, if you hated Bumblebee, you’re gonna LOVE Rise of the Beasts because they kill ‘Bee early in the film as character development for Optimus.

I read the director didn’t get approval for the “crossover” thing and just threw it in there. I haven’t seen the movie, but the easter egg seems dumb and not thought out. If they had given the character the name of any of several hundred characters from the other franchise, it might’ve been a bit more interesting. As it is, I think I would’ve been more excited if the guy’s business card has said M.A.S.K. on it.

I’m debating on doing a double feature this weekend of TF:RotB and Flash.

The article I read said they filmed two different business cards. The other was for "Sector Seven". They didn't get approval for the crossover until a couple weeks before the movie release.

The new first issue of Transformers from Kirkman’s Skybound imprint came out today.

It’s a pretty basic rehashing of the origin story we’ve seen countless times in the original G1 cartoon and Marvel series. Spike and Carly are rock climbing and stumble upon the Arc buried in the side of a mountain. Jetfire(after his cameo in Void Rivals) is there reviving the Decepticons, except Jetfire doesn’t know there are factions now. He’s just bringing his buddy Starscream back to life. Starscream immdiately starts destroying the dormant Autobots(RIP Bumblebee) until Optimus wakes up. Optimus and Ratchet manage to load the surviving ‘bots in Prime’s trailer. Spike and Carly assist Prime and earns Starscream’s ire. Jetfire steps in to save them and is killed by Starscream, dying in Prime’s arms. Prime and the Bots escape and Starscream goes out to collect energy and squishes a human right in front of Sparkplug.

IDW’s books had moved so far beyond this tired story arc, it’s difficult to get excited. But I guess “fans” were bitching there were gay Transformers or whatever, so now we are back to square one nostalgia porn.

And anarky’s not even here to be disappointed by it. Sad face.
