Fixing old digital pictures

computers are cool - they are the reason you are here right now! Hopefully, JJReason can build one and prove once and for all, Canadians are somewhat intelligent.

Fixing old digital pictures

Post by Ran »

About 10 years ago, we had an Panasonic cam-corder that also took digital pictures. It was fine for the time. I found some pictures I took with it from Korea and realized the quality sucks. Is there a program that can enhance them at all? I thought I took a picture of something for the other site and sent it in and they were able to make more presentable. I'll attach a couple just so you can see how bad it is. I know the dancing one was from that camera. Not sure about the highway picture.

And yes, the highway signs in Korea (and Kuwait for that matter) look exactly like ours except for the language.

You can adjust various aspects in PhotoShop, but it's a pretty heavy-duty program. It's not quite the god program that some people make it out to be, but it can do a lot. Just tinkering with brightness, contrast, and saturation levels would make a pretty major difference in that second one.

And even that's almost impossible without proper PS knowledge.

are those the full files or did you shrink them to post on here? I can do some photoshop stuff on them if you would like.

Those are the original files. You can mess with them if you like. I have a bunch, so I was hoping I could learn to do them myself.

Like I've said before, I had PhotoShop, but don't have it now. :(

The big concern with that second one is that it would be impossible to really sharpen. It's already got some major pixelation going on, which would just get worse.

Gave it a quick try in PS. It's really not that hard except that they are low res to begin with. Do you plan on printing them?

Also, here's a good place for tutorials on photoshop http://good-tutorials.com/

Cool. Thanks. Probably won't print them since it would be a waste of paper.
