Funko Pops

Post by Diabolical »

We have no thread for these little bastards?

I found myself accidentally collecting them, starting with Baby Groot.
I've now grown to a small, yet more than I ever anticipated, 14 Pops, with a few more on the way.
Part of the reason is because they make Pops of things that there is no way we'd get a proper figure of, like Step Brothers.

Baby Groot may have started it, but it quickly grew to include:
The Flash (tv series)
Star Wars - Darth Vader (Rogue One), Artoo, Threepio (classic, not that red arm bullshit), and Rey (TFA)
Step Brothers - Dale and Brennan
Supernatural - Sam and Dean Winchester
The Punisher (tv version)
Parks and Recreation: Ron Swanson and Burt Macklin, FBI
The one and only Lemmy Kilmister

I'll be adding a few more soon:
Kevin Smith in his Fatman jersey (a Hot Topic exclusive) on Monday.
I'm not sure the artist in me can resist the Bob Ross much longer.
I'd like a regular Andy Dwyer and Lil Sebastian from Parks and Rec.
They recently announced a Mr. Bean coming in January.
The Deuce is also coming soon.

I'd love the Squirrel Girl, but she was an exclusive and goes for over $45 online - I can't justify that. Hopefully they do a version 2 or a tv version next year.
I'd also like a regular Stan Lee, but those all go for stupid amounts too.

Thus far, I have avoided the temptation because I know myself as a notorious completist and attempting that would kill me.

But that lil Lying Cat looks damn adorable....hmmmm

The only one I have is B.A. Baracus. I pity the fool who asks why.

That's their whole ploy - there is one out there that you can't resist, no matter who you are or what you like... and once that moral barrier is broken.....

So far all I have is baby groot & a matching Rocket, but I've come dangerously close to starting down the Star Wars path at least 400 times.

I saw that they have some for NHL players. None of them were Sabres, so I didn't buy them. It is amazing how many licenses they have.

Its a slippery slope. I just look at the ones I really want rather than a collection/series. Plus, the amount of cool variants/exclusives would kill me.

Almost all of the Star Wars ones do nothing for me. Probably the overabundance of figures that make me say "Why that one?"
I wouldn't mind a set of the classic ANH heroes (Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Ben, and Stormtrooper to go with Artoo, Threepio, and Vader). Too bad most/all of them haven't been reissued.

Same here with no Red Wings.
I think the amount of licences are part of the appeal. There's no way we were ever going to get proper Step Brothers, Parks and Rec, or a Lemmy figures.

Whoa. Just looked through their website. There is a Bob Ross. That's going on my Christmas wish list.

By the way, there was some Parks and Rec.

There are several Bob Ross variants.

I've got Ron Swanson and Burt Macklin, that son of a bitch.

The market for these things is crashing hard within a year. They're going to make Beanie Babies look like a sound investment.

That said, they're cool. My daughter collects them. Being a kid, she is far from a completist on anything. I try to grab her exclusives when I can, or cool ones that go on clearance.

The only one I've bought that I've kept is a certain blue-skinned art critic that Diabolical fucking hates.

I showed my wife the Bob Ross one last week. Yesterday a box from Amazon arrived slightly bigger than a shoe box. It was very light for its size. She gets home and makes a comment on how the box was bigger than she expected. She also didn't want to tell me what was in it. This woman is also surprised that I can guess what gifts she got me before I open them. Yes, I married a blonde.

I wish Funko would reissue some older ones every now and then, especially the Christmas ones. I'd love to have Ralphie and the Old Man or Clark and Cousin Eddie, without paying a shitter full of money.

I did a search for Elvis Funko Pop, and there is a pretty good one. It was older and they wanted a ton of money for it.

They have three figures from the Grinch cartoon. The Grinch, Max, and The Grinch with the roast beast.

Today, Weird Al tweeted out pictures of two Funko Pops of himself. One is the traditional 80s attire holding an accordion. The other was him from the "Fat" video.

I might need the 80s one to go along with Bob Ross and Mr. T.
