The dune buggy's an update of Sandstorm (an Autobot Triple-Changer--no one gives a fuck about those aside from Springer). There's also a Stunticon update in that assortment; it uses the name and personality from Dead End, but the colors are based on Wildrider.

The small ones include Thundercracker (Starscream repaint), Brawl (Onslaught repaint), Motormaster (using the name "Motorbreath," which is just fucking stupid, oh, and he's an Optimus Prime repaint, which is stupid as well), and Hoist (Trailbreaker repaint, just like the original).

The larger figures are G2 Megatron (Bludgeon with a new head... it's a fucking awesome G2 Megatron head, but the body is so fucking wrong for the character, regardless of whether it turns into a tank or not) and Hotspot (Inferno repaint with a new head).

Opened the four "Deluxe" figures. (I fucking love how Hasbro's size designations are meaningless... "Deluxe" means "basic." "Voyager" is the next size up. Then there's "Leader," and those figures usually aren't Prime and Megatron. Oy vey.) Springer is quite cool, though I'm not a big fan of the movie-styled legs. Cliffjumper is nice, but his plastic is brittle--he actually fucking broke on me, though it's a clean break I was able to fix and be happy with instead of chancing never finding him again. Swerve I'm a bit disappointed in; he's straight-up Kup, and the new head looks "older" than the packaging would seem to indicate. It's impossible to read MTMTE and not love him; the figure just doesn't fit his personality in that title. Nice figure, but not Swerve, and the color scheme shows off some minor flaws in Kup's mold that the original teal conceals better.

Wheelie is fucking amazing. Yes, I said it. I'll say it again. Wheelie is fucking amazing. Though they should've gotten rid of Jazz's speakers for the repaint, this is a much, much better use of the mold. While Jazz seemed a little short, it fits Wheelie better. And the head, holy shit, even if you're like 99.99999% of fans and loathe Wheelie with a passion, that head is glorious in how well it represents the animated model.

I was straightening up a bit, and thought a photo of the updates of all the 1986 movie characters would be cool. But, for some strange reason, I can't find Hot Rod. I'm sure he's mislaid somewhere, but it seems weird; I thought I had him beside Arcee, who was easy to find. I'm not exactly worried, but here's what I've got of the new characters and the few surviving older ones who played a major part after the Battle of Autobot City:

Grimlock: TRU Masterpiece Edition
Wheelie: TRU/Asia Generations (the previous Generations figure would be better scaled, but he's a sucky figure and, besides, I don't have him and don't want to pay $60+ for him)
Springer, Cliffjumper: TRU/Asia Generations
Bumblebee: Generations V1 with V2's gun
Cyclonus, Galvatron, Scourge, Wreck-Gar, Junkheap, Blurr, Kup, Hot Rod, Perceptor, Jazz: Generations
Arcee: Transformers Animated
Unicron: Robots in Disguise (I know there've been more accurate versions since, but they're all based off this mold with tweaks, and fuck if I'm paying that amount for the motherfucker again)

Soundwave, Shockwave, and a few others survived the initial carnage, but were relatively unimportant later on. I suppose I could toss in Astrotrain.

Ultra Magnus is a conundrum. The Generations one is gorgeous, but he's a white Optimus Prime. The Fall of Cybertron one will be more accurate colors, with a new head, but it's coming out next year (if ever--this is Hasbro).

Generations Blaster is way too off-G1 to use.

I figured it would be pointless to stack up Wheeljack, Windcharger, Bluestreak, Prowl, Ratchet, Brawn, Huffer, Smokescreen, Tracks, Starscream, Thundercracker, Thrust, Skywarp, Dirge, Ramjet, Sideswipe, Ironhide, and Sunstreaker. (Fuck, that movie did have quite the body count--that's only the guys killed onscreen, including cut scenes.) They still haven't updated the other four Dinobots (which is crazy, since Generations Grimlock came out several years ago and listed his function as the commander of a subteam that doesn't exist in the new line!) or Blitzwing (who dies anyway).

Any better ideas? (I doubt it; any better recent versions were probably premium statues or something.)

Was Generations Blaster the one that turned into that shitty spaceship lookin' piece of carp? I'm sorry, but slapping the name 'Blaster' on any old turd Go-Bot you come up with doesn't count.

Yup. A straight repaint from an Armada mold, complete with Minicons. They didn't even resculpt the head. I stupidly bought it, before realizing they did this sort of shit a lot. I passed on the Target set with a shitty repainted "Springer" and a shitty repainted "Ratbat." At least now they usually give them new heads.

I re-watched portions of the movie with Anarky Jr, and it's really a fucking mess with dead characters. I assumed Thrust and Dirge died and were rebuilt into Unicronian Decepticons, since they took exactly the same amount of damage in the battle as Shrapnel, who clearly was tossed out. But they're three of the 'Cons who agree to "survival of the fittest," and fly into battle under Shockwave's command later only to be literally eaten by Unicron. (Given how non-fatal that is to a half dozen or so Autobots, they should still be around.) Shrapnel is a real fucking mess. He's clearly thrown into space, clearly rebuilt into a Sweep... and then fights Ultra Magnus on Junkion.

It also always bothered me, and still does, why there are so many totally unfamiliar Transformers. I'm not talking about new characters. They land on two whole planets full of undiscovered Transformers. The show retconned that Quintessons built all Transformers, so the Sharkticons and Allicons make some sense. (Particularly combining the show with the never explicitly-stated bit from the movie backstory that the Quintessons were advance agents of Unicron, so they just really love building robots that change shape like their master.) But where the fuck did the Junkions come from? Why do they not only have the ability to rebuild themselves, but to rebuild Magnus? What about the Lithonians, who are clearly TF-sized robots and who are shown transforming in the comic? Biggest of all, Wheelie. The guy's not only a total unknown, but he's a "boy," and he has a fucking Autobot symbol from the very beginning. IIRC, the cartoon didn't even begin to address that afterward; even as a kid, this bugged me more than anything else about the movie.

The cartoon couldn't maintain continuity within the same scene, let alone between episodes. The characters changed colors or modes or locations all the time the camera went off of them. Asking for them to explain the history of a character is probably too much.

They're making more Fall of Cybertron figures. Or planning them, at least. I'm a bit surprised the basic figures have been selling. I wanted Shockwave, the Combaticons, and Kickback (whenever I find him). If they weren't so damned much, I'd got for Magnus, Jazz, Starscream, and Sideswipe. No need whatsoever for new figures of Bumblebee and Prime in Cybertron modes. I'm not sure why they sculpted completely new ones instead of reusing the War for Cybertron versions.

The kicker is that five will be repaints of the Combaticons. As Autobots. Specifically, as Wreckers. I'm not sure who's who and am too lazy to check, but the five will be Topspin, Twin Twist, Whirl, Roadbuster, and Impactor. So the four G1 figures who got the least love (or second maybe after the Deluxe Insecticons, maybe) and a guy who's only ever appeared in comics. They merge to form "Ruination," a name borrowed from the combined form of G1 Combaticon repaints in Robots in Disguise or Armada or some shitty series, because they didn't call it Bruticus for some reason. Who has the head of Emirate Xaaron.

Oy vey.

Family Dollar has some Dark of the Moon Transformers for $5. Not the little ones, the bigger ones that are usually $15.

Ok, after recent stops at Target and Toys R Us I noticed there must be at least 4 or 5 different lines going on. I can't name them all, but there were some from the animated series, then some other's called "Beast Hunters", and so on. I just seems strange.

Beast Hunters is season 3 (I think) of Prime.

Jesus fucking Christ, Rollo, have you seen the ToyFair stuff?

Triple Changer Springer! (He looks so good, I almost regret getting the Chinese version.)

Triple Changer Blitzwing!

Gigantanormous Metroplex!

Trailbreaker!

And, possibly most importantly, Megatron, Bumblebee, and Orion Pax who are full-on based on their IDW versions!!!

I didn't see a cane, but that Bumblebee is clearly an Autobot Commander. Fuck, I just jizzed my pants.

I have no money. So looking at Toys on the Internet makes me sad.

I'm sad they're finally making a Comic accurate Iron Monger BAF.
I'm sad they're making a bitchin' 1960s Batmobile.
I'm sad they make so many cool Lego sets.
And I'm sad they're finally making Trailbreaker and other assorted TFs.

I'm sad that the only thing society deems me qualified to do is sell my blood to earn a pitifully small amount of cash every week to buy comics.
