Best and worst covers

uh, y'know, the sounds that sound good together... sometimes... and sometimes sounds like the disgusting "squish squish" sound Slicker's mom makes whenever she walks

This might take the cake for weirdest. Okay, not quite, but they were trying. It's pretty catchy, but totally from left field.

Did the "oom-poppa-mao-mao" guy from the band quit? He should have had a solo.

I'm pretty sure one guy had to retire for health reasons years ago, but not sure which. Or maybe I'm thinking of the Statler Brothers.

Neil Pert does the new Hockey Theme.

He had a custom drum kit made just for the video. All 30 teams are on the drums. The drums are painted the color of the ice. The original 6 teams are on his cap. And he decided to go with "Rush" and #3 on the back of his jersey for obvious reasons.

I was going to put "Mexican Radio" in the Odd music video thread when I found that Wall of Voodoo covered "Ring of Fire".

Opie and Anthony did a show today and they asked what everyone thought the best cover song was. Here are some of the ones they played.

The Gourds country version of Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice"

Brother Joe sings DMX's "Party Up" in the style of James Taylor

Chris Cornell does Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" & Led Zeppelin's "Thank You"

I've heard (actually have) Cornell's version of "Billie Jean." It's pretty damned cool. Also have a bootleg MP3 of The Gourds, but, unfortunately, along the line, some asshole credited it to Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, and Alan Jackson (who, aside from sounding nothing like them, would be a newsworthy enough combo that even a non-country fan would've heard of it), and the dude who introduced me to it gave me that info. Took me ages to figure out who it was.

At Goodwill tonight, I saw an album of covers by a group called Gypsy Soul, who my wife had an older CD of, and picked it up since I figured she'd be interested. They did a pretty decent version of "Superstition," and the only version I can find online is a live version that not only isn't as good as the studio version, but makes them seem like some sort of joke from a Christopher Guest mockumentary.

Umm, why? You have to try listening to a couple of the previews. Its is as bad as it sounds.

Sounds far superior to the original.

Good point.

I was amazed a few weeks ago when I found out Linkin Park is still touring.

I have to admit, I have a bit of a soft spot for Linkin Park. They're one of those acts where, based on what I like and dislike, I should absolutely hate. But they're catchy.

Well, at least the first time they recorded each of their three songs, they were catchy. They definitely are into recycling, though not nearly as badly as Nickelback.

That is pretty cool, DB. Apparently, Rick Rubin wanted Johnny Cash to cover that, and he never would. That would've been super-dee-fucking-awesome.
