holiday hauls

Post by vynsane »

i know we have a new 'what toys did you buy/receive this week' thread topic, but i figured this would be more for a general all-encompassing holiday thing, meaning christmas, chanukkah, (the dreaded) kwanzaa, birthdays, valentine's day, groundhog's day, etc.

my haul for xmas 08 and 31st b-day (it gets a bit thrown together), in order as memory serves:

comics
brit: old soldier tpb
battle pope: genesis tpb
umbrella academy: the apocalypse suite tpb

movies
the dark knight
wanted

games
guitar hero: world tour, full band
lego indiana jones
lego batman
wii music
star wars: clone wars lightsaber duels

books
beacon revisited
bannerman castle (both from the 'images of america' series, both about our town and/or surrounding areas)

there's more i can't remember right now and more to come as today is my birthday, so i haven't received everything yet.
Life is short. STUNT IT!

Re: Merry Christmas, motherfuckers

Get anything good?

My kids bought me an Elvis mug and a magnetic dress up Elvis (it is a running joke started by my wife and mother-in-law). I also got a watch, The Tick season 2, Clash of the Titans, Watchmen, a sweatshirt, and Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC. Not much Star Wars. My wife found that one Cantina alien chick and Boba Fett. What is amazing is that my 4 year old knew I didn't have that Boba Fett because of the build-a-droid part. My parents are going to be visiting tomorrow. They bought one (or possibly both) of my brothers a Wii, so I have no idea what I'm getting.

Those damn zhu-zhu pets go all over the place. One "escaped" from its tunnel and it took us 10 minutes to find it.

To prolong the Santa thing, I spent about an hour making snow out of ice late Christmas Eve. I put it in a cooler and set the cooler outside. It worked. I was up at 5 and spread it on the patio and in the back yard. Jessica got up about 15 minutes after I finished. She found the snow when I told her to let the dogs out.

I got some really good stuff. It seems like slightly less was spent for my stuff than in years previous, but more thought went into what I got:

Rock Band 2
two sets of pajamas (G1 Transformers and Stewie Griffin -- dumb as they might sound, I actually needed them)
a GIJoe t-shirt (the one from Target with several team members in front of the logo -- I think the image comes from one of those cool pack-in checklists they used to do, circa 1984)
latest books from Kurt Vonnegut and George Carlin (the two awesomest and most cynical SOBs of the last century... well, close, since, if you're going by 100 years in the past as opposed to "calendar centuries," you wind up including Mark Twain, who, nothing personal to either Vonnegut or Carlin, mops the floor with them when it comes to being a very bitter and very funny man)
a couple of ROC GIJoe Combat Heroes and a Cars Lighting McQueen (from a certain someone who probably will play with them more than I would ;))
Amazon gift card (already used to order Pushing Daisies Season 2 and Ponyo on DVD)
Best Buy gift cards (as yet unused)
cash
Michael Jackson's This Is It CD (which is mostly duplicate stuff, but I kinda wanted the unreleased tracks and wasn't willing to buy the whole thing myself to get them -- total surprise)
a Neil Diamond t-shirt (featuring young Neil, likely thinking, "Yeah, motherfucker, I just fucking wrote 'I'm a Believer' this morning before breakfast, then churned out 'Red Red Wine' while I was stirring my coffee! Beat that, bitches!" as opposed to old Neil being pelted by granny panties)

My wife got some pretty cool stuff, too, including some stainless steel mixing bowls that can double as double-boilers (seriously, we've been wanting these for a while), a few cookbooks (Julia Child's classic French cookbook, a canning book, and a pretty comprehensive-looking Vietnamese cookbook), and Life Is Beautiful on DVD.

Shitload of clothes I really needed - shirts, pants, hoodie, shoes, slippers, etc.

DVDs: Clone Wars Season 1, Inglourious Batserds, District 9, Terminator
Salvation: Director's Cut

A bunch of random small kitchen stuff.

Boba Fett head mug

NHL game for PS2

Books: The Lovely Bones and Up In The Air

Applebees gift card.

4G memory card for my cell phone. Now I just have to find the smaller size headphones.

Pistons-Celtics tickets for January 20. Not a basketball fan but we're going with my sis-in-law & bro-in-law so it should be fun.

The weirdest and possibly coolest thing of all, a hot dog toaster. Two slots for hot dogs and two slots for buns.

i got a blindfolded blowjob at a party. it wasn't until i took off the blindfold that i realized it was my sister who blew me! we both were sort of disgusted and embarrassed, but finally laughed it off. she was pretty good, too. i am thinking of taking her bar-hopping, getting her drunk, and maybe going all the way with her next weekend.

I received the gift of enlightenment. After meditating for many hours, I discovered the U2 song "With or Without U" is actually about people from England and the U.S. discussing the spelling of the word "color"...or "colour", depending on your point of view. And I did it without fucking my sister.
