swimming log

Post by vynsane »

this is more for my own records, but you can post encouragement if you feel moved.

okay, so tuesday i didn't keep track of how much i swam, but i venture to guess that i probably broke 1000 yards, swimming from 5:05 to 5:50am. it was pretty smooth, though i was REALLY drained afterward - my arms felt very heavy in the shower when trying to wash my head.

today, i kept track and did 1250 yds, which is 50 laps of a standard 25 yd pool from 5:15 to 6:00 am. it went a lot easier today, less problems washing my head.

breakdown (in yards):
200 fs
100 br
100 fs
100 bk
100 fs
100 br
100 fs
100 bk
100 br
200 fs
50 cool-down (frog-kick, floating on back)

(fs=freestyle, br=breaststroke, bk=backstroke, fl=butterfly)

i totally left it that way on purpose. funny story, that's was one of the plotlines that was going to permeate "no diving" - the "fecal phantom" - a mysterious ass-ailant who leaves a brown trail of clues. and yes, it's based on a true story, swear to god.
As it is, that's some crazy-ass swimming vinsunt- are you trying to go pro or something, or just doing it for fitness??
um... not pro, but i was going to train up to swim across the hudson river this summer for a conservation fund raiser where you swim across from newburgh to beacon, which is about a mile. except the missus dragged her heels paying for the use of the local high school's pool, so i ended up not even starting to train until after registration for this year's even was closed. so i'm training for next year.

the over-all reason is for fitness, but i can't just "work out" - i need to fool myself into getting into shape. that's why martial arts is so good for me - i get to learn cool shit while getting into shape. unfortunately, martial arts is really expensive - probably about monthly what we paid for a year to use the pool. i was using the river swim as my incentive to do it, and it worked even though i'm now training for next year.

as for the "crazy-ass swimming" - that's nothing! when i was in high school, that's what i swam in competition. practices were even more yards. every news year's day we swam that many laps, took about 3 hours. swimming comes very naturally to me, i guess.
and where ya doing it- not in the local water?!?!?

Can't swimming across the Hudson turn you into a hideous mutant freak?

500 fs
100 br
50 fs sprint

200 fs
100 br
50 fs sprint
50 fs sprint
50 fs sprint

100 br
500 fs
100 cooldown

the sprints were much harder today... maybe because it's monday? or maybe because the guy swimming right in front of me had diarrhea and i kept having to dodge chocolatey goodness. i got a little in my eye.

also, it was annoying to have to fill up the passenger side front tire of the car this morning at 5am...

You ain't got shit on Michael Phelps.
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

After seeing a biography of Phelps last night, I'll side with Vyn. To my knowledge, he's never been arrested for DUI.

Fuck Michael Phelps. Yeah, I said it. Fuck his drunk driving ass.
