Netflix Original Series

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Netflix Original Series

Post by Diabolical »

We all know Daredevil was amazing, but that has it's own thread.

Orange is the New Black is another one of Netflix's big powerhouses. Thank God the show evolved from being solely about Piper. It is far more interesting now.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was really funny. The Math episode killed me. And Ellie Kemper is hot...in that adorable kind of way.

I just finished Aziz Ansari's new show, Master of None, and it is fantastic. Hilarious and often touching sitcom with great writing and dialogue.

I still need to start House of Cards.

After I'm done with Breaking Bad, I'll start on House of Cards.

Making a Murderer. Basically a cast member of the Trailer Park Boys, or as close as exists in real life, gets caught up in a bad rap. Then he gets exonerated after 18 years & goes free, then sues the county. That's when the trouble begins.

EDITED: And done, 10hrs all viewed in the last day or so. Well worth the time.

I just started Stranger Things after both my sister and a guy from work recommended it independently of each other within a couple days of each other.
It's an homage to 80s scifi and horror, like a mashup of John Carpenter, Spielberg, and Stephen King. It's only 8 episodes long and I'm halfway done.
I don't think the insult 'douchebag' was as prevalent in the early 80s as they suggest, but otherwise it's been fun.

Also, that wasn't a vintage Millennium Falcon. I can tell the difference.

Started watching House of Cards. I'm about halfway through season 1. It's fantastic.

EDIT. Season 2, Episode 1. HOLY FUCK, I did not see that coming.

EDIT2.0 Season 2, finale. The final scene. The ring tap. Gave me chills.

Stranger Things 2 dropped last night at midnite PST. I only managed the first episode because it was almost 4:00 by the time I finished and I had to go sleepies. But, yeah. Nine episodes this "season". Get to bingeing, suckas!

Watched the first 2 episodes of ST2. A little slow, but good so far.

Just finished season 1 today, and it lived up to all the hype. I am going to give it a few days before watching season 2 so they don't get all jumbled up in my old man brain. Hopefully I can finish Punisher in the next 2 days then watch it over the weekend.

The Toys That Made Us. Eight part documentary series about the history of popular toy lines. Only watched the first episode, which was Star Wars. And I knew most of that story already.
The other episodes track Barbie, GIJoe, Masters of the Universe, Lego, Transformers, Star Trek, and... Hello Kitty

The Hasbro lawyer was the absolute start. I didn't watch the Barbie one but the other 3 were passable, with SW significantly more interesting than He-Man & GI Joe. The panel of "experts" & their stock opinions got boring. Where was the info about the lawsuit about the He-Man cartoon not being appropriate because it was a 30 min toy ad? That's interesting & important stuff to our hobby that they didn't even touch on.

I wonder what that $10,000 payment ended up costing them. 2.5% vs 18% over the last 25 years? Holy shit.

I watched the Barbie and He-Man episodes. I enjoyed both of them. Like I said, I pretty much knew the origins of the Star Wars toy line, so those episodes were more informative for me. I enjoyed the origins of Battlecat.

Watched all 4 episodes the last few days.
I thought they were all good, even the Barbie one, but I liked Star Wars and He-Man the best. Lots of fun tidbits and it was great how honest the people were about the behind the scenes drama.

Anyone know when the second 4 drop?

Trailer Park Boys Season 12 - A major step up from last year.

Jessica Jones Season 2 - 4 episodes in and its good, but its a very slow burn. And they actually put the Whizzer in the MCU.

Lost in Space - This is a very different LiS than the 60s tv show (or 98 movie), but I'm liking it after the first 2 episodes.
Dr. Smith is a woman (Parker Posey to be exact) and she's got at least one big secret they reveal right away.
I'm pretty sure Penny is adopted (or Maureen had some explaining to do).
The robot (my favorite part of the original series) is very different on almost every level.
