The Walking Dead

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

The Walking Dead

Post by anarky »

Surprised there's no thread here for this, given that vynnie is a zombie aficionado and a Kirkman fanatic.

Looks like typical zombie fare to me, which is what I was expecting. Doesn't look bad at all; I'll probably check it out mostly for Darabont's involvement, but it doesn't look like it's really breaking any new ground here, and I'm just not a zombie person.

honestly there wasn't a lot to talk about up until now.

that looked awesome, btw.

there's no way to convey it in a trailer, but the book is NOT your standard fare in terms of zombies. it's more about the living, and how they cope with what's happened (or how they don't cope) than it is about the dead - there are streaks of 4 or 5 issues where zombies don't even show up!

Only $38 for 48 issues? Methinks I'll check it out sooner rather than later, as I've never heard anything bad about it.

I've still only read the first trade (I hope to be correcting that mistake soon), but I can't wait to see this show.

Now that the really short six episode first season is over, what'd ya think?

I fucking loved every minute of it.
Surprisingly few zombies at times, which is fine by me because the rest is so damn good. I got invested in characters that have only a few minutes of screen time.

And all those damn lingering questions...
Where is Michael Rooker?
What did the doc whisper?
Have these people seen a zombie movie?
Don't they know what a zombie is (since they've never said the word)?

Amazon has Season 1 set for sale in March, so I hoping that means Season 2 will start in the spring.

i've only seen five of the six episodes, but it was fantastic.

that's basically par for the course in the comics - the zombies are just background for the drama. it's funny that you should mention that they don't call the zombies zombies. they've changed it to 'walkers' in the TV series, to coincide with the name of the show, but they actually categorize them as 'roamers' (those that just walk around aimlessly until they come upon a meal) and 'lurkers' (those that just wait in one place until a meal comes to them), but another group they meet just calls them 'biters' and makes fun of them for distinguishing between different types.

so, having seen the final episode, i have to figure the CDC guy said...

something to the effect of "i told you there were no surprises, i didn't say you were clean. you're all infected." this is based on the fact that, in the book, people have come back even when they haven't been bitten.

Rewatched the first season in two sittings over the last few days in preparation for season 2.

Still awesome. Can't wait for Sunday.

I hadn't watched it since I read the TWD Compendium Volume 1. I'm surprised how little of the book's story made it into the series. There are just a few things after that first episode. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it means no one is safe and to expect anything.

I caught half the marathon before the tonight's premier. Usually I like my zombie movies with a bit more humor, but this one is pretty damn good.

Aww, shit, there was a marathon? Fuuuuuuuck. :frus:

Well, I got to see the muthaphukkin' Mister Limpet serenading the Little Mermaid today, so fuck Walking Dead. Don Knotts > zombies.

(Eh, who am I kidding? Any word on future marathons?)

That S2 premiere was a thrill. Reedus is definitely a guy I would want on my side during the apocalypse.
