Veronica Mars
Who else is a fan?
I've had Seasons 1 and 2 for quite a while now (When Target had 'em on sale for $15 each in Oct/Nov-ish), but only recently got to watching them.
Holy shit - this show was fucking awesome! I watched both seasons in probably three weeks (maybe less). It was incredibly well-written and casted. The ongoing stories of the Lilly Kane murder (Season 1) and bus crash (Season 2) were handled very well; neither story dragged on or failed to surprise with its revelations.
Kirsten Bell *giggity* is instantly likable as Veronica. Her relationship with her father (Enrico Colantoni of Just Shoot Me and Galaxy Quest) never feels forced or cheesy. And Jason Dohring is great as Logan Echolls, the perfect combo of the bad guy/good guy.
The show had some great guest stars too, like: Kevin Smith, Joss Whedon, Michale Cera, Charisma Carpenter, Steve Guttenberg (Yes, he is alive), Lisa Rinna (and her big lips), Alyson Hannigan, two of the Home Improvement kids, Joey Lauren Adams, and more.
Now Season 3 needs to go on sale soon...

Re: Veronica Mars
Wait til you see what they had in store for the aborted Season 4. Much like the completely AWESOME OneTreeHill, they were going to jump ahead four years and join a new Quantico grad Veronica as a rookie FBI Agent. They even shot a short 30 minute presentation to pitch to the network. It's on the Season 3 DVD set.
V.Mars is/was a great show.

Re: Veronica Mars
I heard about the Season 4 pitch. It seems like both a good idea and a bad idea. I think part of the cleverness of the show is her ingenuity at such a young age. It seems like a grown up Veronica as an FBI agent could easily fall into a by-the-numbers show, like CSI, Criminal Minds, ect (but I hope the crew wouldn't let themselves do something that dumb).
Apparently there is still talk of maybe getting a Veronica Mars movie made.

I ripped her off during an autograph signing at Wizard World, so that was fun.

And they've met their $2 million goal in 1 day!
Even though they've hot the goal, I'm still considering donating.
For $50, fans will get a copy of the dvd, digital download, t-shirt and a pdf of the script.
Pay attention, Joss Whedon and Chris Carter.

Posted my brief thoughts in "What have you watched lately?"
Good flick. Worth the investment. I'll avoid spoilers until others see it (and so I don't ramble on in case nobody else contributes).

Re: Veronica Mars
I'm pissed. It's an "AMC Exclusive" film and the nearest AMC theater is like 2 1/2 hours away.
I'm also pissed Dax Shepard gets all up in that every night. He's a wanker and doesn't deserve V Mars poon. Jagoff.

Re: Veronica Mars
The benefit of backing the film on Kickstarter was a download of the flick.
I was pissed I couldn't see it in theaters too. I have no idea where my closest AMC theater is, but I know it has to be more than an hour away, so fuck that. Even though I had a copy I still wanted to support the movie with a ticket purchase to improve the chance of a sequel.

Re: Veronica Mars
Yeah, I have no idea why they did that, especially with this flick. They want the biggest return possible, yet limit the number of theaters, which results in a limited number of people going to see the movie? Makes perfect sense.anarky wrote:My God, there are theater-chain exclusive movies now?

The only explanation I can think of is that maybe the studio thinks the simultaneous digital release might impact theater going crowd. And in their ignorance they don't realize that a majority of people don't buy movies digitally.

Re: Veronica Mars
I saw that. Amazing!
Have you read either of the novels?
I finally read the first one, The Thousand Dollar Tan Line, and it was pretty good. The authors, creator Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham (I think the latter did most of the writing) really capture the voice and spirit of VM. It was like an extended episode and picks up some (but not all) threads from the movie. I think some of the movie's dangling threads were meant for a sequel movie. And it's considered VM canon.
The book just made me want to rewatch the series (which we will do after we finish Scrubs). I want to read the second book soon.
